MEET AMY
As much as I love where I live and the opportunities my children have as a result of where we live, I still want them to experience the beauty of where I grew up. Over winter break we were able to spend some time in Pennsylvania where they had the chance to meet my parents’…
Yesterday I sat down and logged into Twitter and saw a hashtag I hadn’t seen before: #Disney24. A quick investigation led me to this bit of news – both Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park are staying open for 24 straight hours to celebrate Leap Day, February 29th. The 24 hour celebration will…
Last year at this time I wrote a post titled Welcome, 2011. High Expectations, Take a Seat. The idea was that rather than set myself up for stress and disappointment, I would vow to live a life with less stress in 2011, play the piano more, spend more time with my kids. Unfortunately, my anti-resolution…

Last month I introduced Resourceful Mommy readers to Kidworth, a free service for parents to help teach children money management that will last a lifetime. Their service allows parents to set up accounts for their children, create goals each child is working towards, and invite family and friends to help via emails, social sharing and…
Even though we have been to Disney many times with our kids, there was something uniquely magical about spending time at Walt Disney World as a couple celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary. I wrote about it on July 21st, 2011. Last week my husband and I did something that we very rarely do – we took…
From 5/23/11 – my first Mamavation Monday: To any regular readers of Resourceful Mommy, it is no surprise that I have been battling to achieve a healthy lifestyle and a slimmer body for most of my adult life. Most of you have also become well acquainted with the Mamavation program created by Leah of @Bookieboo….
My daughter and her best friend, who happens to be Jewish, have been having discussions about religion for several months. All of this culminated in my daughter asking if we could celebrate Hanukkah this year. We are a Christian family so we compromised and decided to try out different aspects of the Hanukkah celebration. Tonight…
When I began my journey with Mamavation to lose weight and get in shape, I realized quickly that what I ate – not just the number of calories, fat, etc. – was going to play as big a role in my success as anything else. The Mamavation moms led me to the free tools at…
This morning’s church service – the final week of Advent – was exactly what I needed to keep me in the holiday spirit in these last days leading up to Christmas. It was such a wonderful service that I decided to share it with all of you here: Video streaming by Ustream In other holiday…
I like to joke that my kids are spoiled, but not spoiled rotten. The fact is that in some ways they live a life of excess. Just last year they went to Walt Disney World three times – twice for work-related trips with me, and once for a fun weekend getaway. I’ve never said no…

Nearly every morning after I watch the kids get on the bus, I go for a walk on the paths around my neighborhood. Depending on the weather (I walk rain or shine) and how much time I have before I need to start working, I either make a 2.5 mile or a 1.5 mile loop….
…because even on days when I know I’m going to be soaked by the time I get back to my house and have to walk with water sloshing inside my shoes, I’ve got to get out there. Even days that aren’t sunshiny perfect are worth enjoying. Wordless Wednesday Want more Wordless Wednesday? Check out: The Bonafide…
Despite my best efforts to keep moving with daily walks, I have found myself slipping into the holiday lazies, especially when it comes to what I’m eating. For some reason, there is something about a decorated Christmas tree and a fire in the fireplace that makes me think I need a bowl of popcorn in…
I’ve worked very hard over the last few months to change the way I eat – when, what, how. The results have been wonderful for me as I’ve lost weight and improved my health, but the wonderful bonus has been that my family now eats healthier, more balanced meals. I have always fed my children…

My husband and I differ in opinion on many issues from our taste in music to our stance on politics. However, one subject we always agree on is finances, including teaching our children the importance of money management at a young age. Because my parents encouraged me to save money and facilitated the opening of…
I don’t come from a family that hands out compliments frequently. In fact, my entire small hometown in Pennsylvania is filled with the kind of people who will rebuild your house should it burn to the ground, but will not congratulate you should something wonderful happen to you. Now, of course I’m generalizing. In fact,…
I am thankful for my friends… for my family… for my warm and spacious home… for the beauty that surrounds me… and for all of you, who have helped to make this blessed life possible. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
