A Resolution Free New Year

Last year at this time I wrote a post titled Welcome, 2011.  High Expectations, Take a Seat.  The idea was that rather than set myself up for stress and disappointment, I would vow to live a life with less stress in 2011, play the piano more, spend more time with my kids. Unfortunately, my anti-resolution post was, in fact, filled with goals that were just as difficult to achieve as those my peers posted on their blogs.

No, I didn’t resolve to take over a small island nation, but this? “May 2011 be the year of days with no lists whatsoever.”

Yeah, that was as attainable as flap my arms and fly to the moon.

So this year I am not reflecting on my 2011, I am not creating New Year’s resolutions, I am not applauding my successes, regretting my failures, lamenting what I would change or moving goals from the 2011 column to the 2012 column.

I am going to take 2012 one day at a time starting tomorrow on January 1st, and I am going to hope that at the end of each day I go to bed at peace with the day I have just lived, ready to start again in the morning.
