If you haven’t been to Resourceful Mommy for awhile, you may be utterly confused by my recent posts.
Let me catch you up.
I mostly stopped blogging back in January of 2014, except for moments like when I felt compelled to pop back in and tell you about my sweet Alison, write an open letter to teens about Star Wars, share about my visit to the White House, bring the smack down to the blogosphere, and lament feeling like I was at a crossroads.
I completely went away in January of 2018.
And in January of 2019, I returned.
I’ve explained why I left blogging, and I’ve committed to creating a life that I don’t want to leave again.
So, where did I go?
I felt called to take on a full time volunteer position at my church, and I did that for most of 2014 and the beginning of 2015. It ended badly, partly because of junk on my side of the street, and partly due to junk on other people’s sides. Regardless, it was healthiest to get off of that street, and so I resigned from that position.
There’s a great saying that we will only be willing to change when the pain of not changing becomes greater than the pain of changing. I reached that threshold after leaving the church staff position and immediately began attending Celebrate Recovery meetings at another local church. It is without exaggeration that I tell you recovery has touched every single aspect of my life, changing it for the better. Every decision I make now comes through the CR filter.
When I left blogging, I tried to hide away in grace.
Through recovery I was transformed by surrender.
And now it’s time to focus on the future.
What to expect from Resourceful Mommy moving forward:
- Twitter Parties and Sponsored Content: I’m committed to not going back to the days of seven sponsored events in one week. We’ll be partnering occasionally and selectively with brands we truly like and trust as well as organizations and services we believe in, but the point of sponsored work is to keep the lights on at Resourceful Mommy, not break the bank.
- My Family: When I began blogging, my kids were two and four. Now they’re fifteen and thirteen. I have two teenagers, friends. TWO. Those teenagers have their own busy lives that don’t involve Play-Doh reviews (we sure did love us some Play-Doh) or posing for Instagram pics. And my husband has always been and continues to be an offline kind of guy. My family may show up from time to time, but gone are the days when the rest of the resourceful family played a key role in my online world.
- My Faith: I’ve dipped my toe into the faith writing waters in the past, but now I’m ready to step out and walk on the water. See what I did there? My faith journey has been a winding one, and my own doubts and fears have kept me in the past from saying too much. But I believe what God tells us, that we were not created with a spirit of fear. I have a lot to say, and I’m ready to say it.
- My Recovery: My entire life is different now than it was five years ago. I know that some of you will read this and want to know how that happened and how it can happen for you. I promise to tell you.
- Disney: Yes, Disney gets its own bullet point. I have loved Disney Parks since I was three years old, and I have shared about Disney Parks, movies, and products since before I realized that’s something bloggers did. In fact, just yesterday I was answering Disney Dining questions via text with a local friend. Disney Parks are about to have a huge 2019 with Galaxy’s Edge opening first on the west coast and then on the east. I am so here for this.
- Travel: Speaking of Disney Parks – it’s actually possible to travel to somewhere other than Disney! A couple years ago we committed as a family to broaden our horizons and add some variety to our travel choices. I spent countless hours researching and planning sponsor-free trips to amazing locations such as Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, and Boston. I’m currently planning a trip of a lifetime to Germany. It has been a wonderful experience for my family, and I look forward to sharing my research and experiences with you.
