Thanksgiving Meal Hero Contest

When I was a child, Thanksgiving and Easter were held in my parents’ home while Christmas was celebrated at my aunt and uncle’s home with my grandmother helping to cook the Christmas day meal. As family members have passed on and my parents have gotten older, holiday celebrations have shifted.  Easter is a small affair at my house, Christmas has moved to my parents’ home, and my brother has taken on the huge task of holding Thanksgiving in his house, which sometimes includes upwards of sixteen people. The truth is that as much as I love having family in my home, I do not love to cook huge meals. Ordering a spiral cut ham at Easter is one thing, but taking on the task of cooking a turkey all day long is more than I want to try. Thanks to Verizon FiOS, we’re able to stay in touch via email and phone in the days in advance to help plan, but my brother definitely takes on the bulk of Thanksgiving meal planning. For this reason, my brother is my Thanksgiving Meal Hero!

Verizon FiOS has partnered with the Food Network to bring us the Thanksgiving Meal Hero program in association with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry program to donate up to 150,000 meals this Thanksgiving season.  By sharing your Thanksgiving Meal Hero story, you can enter to win a chance to tour the Food Network Studios in NYC!

To enter to win simply submit your 75 to 200 word story and photo at the Thanksgiving Meal Hero site. Once you’ve entered, share your entry via social media to invite friends to come and rate your story. Twenty-five top entries will be judged by a panel from Verizon and Food Network to select the grand prize winner.  Those who register to vote for the submitted stories will be able to donate up to 30 meals simply by rating the stories and can donate an additional 30 meals by going to the Verizon site to see if their residence qualifies for Verizon FiOS.
