Mustering My Mamavation

Last week I wrote about pledging the Mamavation Sistahood, really trying to make some changes in my health for the positive. Then I got in a van covered in giant Twizzlers and drove to the home of the cheese steak followed by a trip to the makers of the Great American Chocolate Bar.  Now don’t get me wrong, there was a lot of walking.  But there was also a lot of soda, candy, chocolate and fast food. I have no intention of completely cutting everything out of my life at once, but there was not much of moderation in my diet as we drove from place to place.

I’m happy to be home and getting back on track!  Today my son and I went to the grocery store and picked up tons of fresh fruit and veggies as well as a giant tub of Greek yogurt.  I’m going to try to create some delicious lunches that move me away from the fatty, high carb goodies I’d normally crave.  If I need to crunch, I now have cheddar rice cakes with tons of fiber. I’ve got my twenty-four ounce water container that I’ve been refilling all day.  And that elliptical/exercise bike that I bought in January?  I took that baby for a spin for thirty minutes today AND did some upper body work with light weights AND did some serious oh-my-God-that-hurts-so-much crunches, which confused the heck out of my cat.  I am excited to be taking steps in the right direction and am looking forward to seeing and feeling the changes that result.

  • Good for you, Amy! My latest guilt-free pleasure are PopChips, especially the salt + pepper flavor. Taking your son with you to the grocery store to pick out produce is a great strategy — kids are far more likely to eat what they’ve selected (or, better yet, grown!).

I said to Noah, “We’re going to try asparagus,” to which he replied defiantly, “No YOU’RE going to try asparagus.” LOL

LOL! My issue is the snacking AFTER the Twitter Parties because they make me so hungry!

  • Doing crunches is possibly the world’s most baffling activity if you’re a cat. Mine always give me the strangest looks. But hang in there! You can do it!

I’m getting the occasional bite. Hopefully he’ll get used to it soon.

  • Ahhhhhhh to eat healthy every day, but then the chocolate monster comes knocking on your door, and jumps in your purse… I know whatcha mean! Total bummer.

I’m armed with special dark in the fridge. If I’m feeling like I need a treat, I get a square. One square. It’s been working!
