Mother’s Day Resolution

No, I’m not confused.  I know its not New Year’s, but I’m making a Mother’s Day Resolution!

This Mother’s Day my resolution is to make more time to get together with my mom friends.  One of the nicest gifts I received when I became a mom seven years ago was the gift of friendship from the other moms around me. In the past, I’d made connections with fellow students, fellow teachers, fellow musicians, but once I became a stay-at-home mom, trapped in my home with a preemie who couldn’t leave, I became incredibly isolated.  It wasn’t until I reached out to the other moms in my community that I found playgroups, a book club, a church community, phone buddies, email pals.  It was then that I felt as though I was part of a community of moms, everyone turning to one another in times of need and triumph, for help or to just hang out.  For every mom who has ever been in the midst of the baby blues or had the pleasure of wasting an afternoon chatting on the playground, you know how important it is to have the support of a circle of moms.

So Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  And hopefully I’ll be spending more time with some of you soon.

This is a great idea! I think I will make this my resolution too.

  • Great resolution! It’s something I really need to work on. And, I notice I’m much happier when I take time out to spend time with my “mom friends” sans kids. We all need to remember to take time and reconnect and recharge!

I love the feeling of connectiveness (is that even a word) with other moms. I also need to reach out & “get connected” to find weekend playdates (I work M-F). Now the weather is nicer, I’m looking forward to these new adventures.

  • this is even important when you have a teen – my friend and I get together once a month to chat about our lives and our kids who were born just days apart. I always look forward to our visits.

My mothers day resolution is to not be so hard on my husband sometimes. Seems like I am always getting upset at everything he does these days. It can be so frustrating. I need to relax more and not get so mad at first. Maybe talking to him more about why he does the things he does upsets me (even though it will probably go in one ear and out the other). 🙂 Baby steps.

  • Hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I think I’ll make this my resolution too.

This will be my resolution as well! Moms unite!

  • I know exactly how you feel. My son was a preemie and we weren’t able to leave the hospital for a few and then when he was home not even a week he was back in the hospital with pneumonia(which they put him in a broom closet away from the other babies)Then when we were home noone, nobody, nothing. So I feel greatful and lucky to have my social mom friends!
