Everything You Need to Know.
This is not a review of the new Disney Pixar film Monsters University. You will not find any pros and cons of the film, heading to theaters June 21st. There are no spoilers in this post. With that said, my family and I did have the amazing opportunity to see a not-quite-ready-for-the-viewing-public version of Monsters University while attending the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration last month at Walt Disney World.
Disclaimer: I love going to the movie theater with my kids.
I loved having babies, nursing every hour around the clock. I was content for years spending my days on the family room floor playing blocks and reading board books. But I still remember the excitement of realizing a movie released in theaters was appropriate for my whole family – and we could go to the movies together! I love the whole experience from the previews to the popcorn to the funny features in the credits at the end of the film. The second Disney announces a new film coming to theaters, my family begins to count down the months until we can race to the theater together.
Even though we saw the Monsters University preview, we’ll still be in line with all the other excited families June 21st.
My favorite thing about Monsters, Inc. is the humor. Even though I’ve seen the film more times than I can count, I still crack up over every silly pun. The kids and I sing, “Put that kid back where she came from, came from, came from….” for days after watching the DVD. Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters, Inc., stays true to the humorous spirit of the first film. I actually laughed harder and more often in Monsters University than in Monsters, Inc., which is no small feat.
The plot of Monsters University also draws in the audience, including multiple plot twists that I still find impressive a month after viewing the film. I’m one of those annoying I-totally-figured-that-out-thirty-minutes-ago people, but this film got me more than once. While there are several new characters who you are absolutely going to fall in love with, be sure to watch Monsters, Inc. again before heading out on the 21st so that you appreciate seeing some familiar faces and catch the references to previous plot points.
This post is possible due to my attendance at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, which was funded in large part by Disney. All opinions are my own.
