Merida Becomes 11th Official Disney Princess

This post is possible due to my attendance at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, which was funded in large part by Disney.  All opinions are my own.

Last Saturday my family and I had the amazing privilege of witnessing the official coronation of Merida who was welcomed as the 11th official Disney Princess.

The first full-length film my children ever saw was Cinderella, thus launching my family on our Disney Princess journey.  When Brave was headed to theaters, we had the chance to see the film as a family prior to its release, and the powerful characters and themes spoke loudly to my daughter and me.  Since then, Merida has joined the ranks of our all-time favorite Disney characters, making attending this incredible moment in the Magic Kingdom even more magical.

The Royal Celebration was MC’d by gold medalist Gabby Douglas, who was joined on this Mother’s Day weekend by her mother, Natalie Hawkins.  The kids and I were star-struck when Gabby took the stage, but all eyes quickly turned when Merida made her triumphant entrance on her black Scottish Clydesdale, Angus.

Bagpipes piping, drums drumming, goosebumps bumping…

Merida took the stage in front of Cinderella’s Castle, the ten other Disney Princesses watching as Queen Elinor walked out to officially declare Merida to be a princess…

Merida stood triumphant, taking her place with the other princesses…

And then in the most magical moment of the morning, Queen Elinor returned with something for her daughter to take with her to the Disney royal court…

Welcome, Merida!
