About NAMI

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) was established in 1979 and is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organizations. NAMI is dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness by advocating for access to services, treatment, support and research, and community awareness.  There are over 1000 NAMI Affiliates across the country.

NAMI-NYC Metro is the largest affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, and New York City’s leading voice on mental illness. NAMI-NYC Metro’s peer-led programs, led by family members and persons with mental illness, made direct contact last year with 16,000 New Yorkers across the city.

Most importantly, NAMI is a safe and non-judgmental community where individuals and families can get support and the tools they need to advocate effectively for themselves or their loved one who is ill.

  • I’ve struggled with mental illness for 14 years starting at age 21. I can recall panic attacks as early as age 8 or 9. Happy to bring awareness for those who suffer or know another who does! @eseattlemama
