How to Survive a Storm with the Help of Rayovac

Over the last four years of blogging I have worked with companies ranging from financial services to children’s toys with everything in between.  Every relationship has had its benefits both to me and to my readers, but never have I been happier to work with a company than I was last weekend.  In fact,  Friday night I turned to my husband and said “Thank God I’m a Rayovac blogger!”

In case you haven’t been watching the news or reading my posts, last Friday a storm called a super derecho hit the Washington, D.C. area, knocking power out for two million of us just in the capital area.  I have never been happier to have a product in my home than I was in that moment.  Knowing that I had enough batteries of various sizes on hand to power a flashlight for each of us gave me a moment of peace in an otherwise horrible week.

Because we did not have AC in the heat wave temperatures or items like milk for the kids, we drove to a location thirty minutes away that somehow had power.  We spent our Saturday eating at restaurants, seeing movies, and shopping, moving from one cool location to another.  But Saturday night meant a return to our powerless home and another night of entertaining an eight year old and a six year old in the dark.

Thankfully, this Rayovac Power Blogger had the recipe for surviving:

Step One: Hand each person a Rayovac flashlight with Rayovac batteries.  Remember my friend from my last Rayovac post?  He is now my best friend:

Step Two: Take your Rayovac lantern and your indoor tent and make a campground for your kids in the basement:

Step Three: Fire up the gas grill – no electricity required! – and roast marshmallows. The 110 degree heat index will help melt the chocolate. Bonus!

Step Four: Play board games by the light of the Rayovac lantern while eating delicious s’mores in your nice, cool basement:

  • YAYYYYY!!! I am so glad you were able to have some fun in the midst of chaos, thanks to Rayovac!

    • We had SO much fun. What I didn’t note was that during one of those board games the power came back on for about two minutes, just long enough for us to decide to finish our camp out. It then went off again for another day and a half. Whoops.
