Everything You Need to Know.
With over a month of the new school year already behind us, all of our children have surely by now reviewed their school’s safety plans with their teachers. They’ve sheltered in place, they’ve prepared for a tornado, and a staple of every school, they’ve reviewed their fire safety plans.
But do your kids know what to do in the event of a fire emergency in their own home?
During my tenure as a Kidde Ambassador, I learned that that my family was actually less prepared for a fire than I believed. Sure, we have an escape plan and a meeting place, but we’ve not spent enough time reviewing the plan and practicing it. The fall is a great time to review and practice your family’s plan as we head into the cooler months. Stop by Kidde.com for fire safety tips before talking to your kids about your family’s plan.
Another discovery over the last year was that we didn’t have as many smoke alarms as is recommended nor in all of the necessary locations. This week is Fire Prevention Week to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and the focus of this year’s event is working smoke alarms. Do you have smoke alarms installed on each level of your home and near sleeping areas? Do you test smoke alarms monthly? Have you replaced all smoke alarms that are ten years old or older?
Fire safety, of course, includes more than a home fire safety plan and the proper use of smoke alarms. Join me this week during Fire Prevention Week in reviewing the steps that you can take to keep your family safe. Please take a moment to visit the National Fire Protection Association’s Fire Prevention Week resource page to learn more about everything from how to talk to your kids about fire safety to information about events around the nation. If you find that your smoke alarms need to be replaced or you simply need to purchase additional smoke alarms, stop by Kidde’s resource on how to choose the best smoke alarms for your home and learn more about Kidde’s Worry-Free Smoke Alarms.
What steps will you take to keep your family safe during this Fire Prevention Week?
