Around here, it’s been weeks and weeks of nothing but rain, but we know that sunshine and warm weather are just around the corner. We can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the outdoors and have a little fun in the sun!
One great way to have a great time with the family while enjoying a beautiful day outside is by organizing a family field day! The options are limitless. You can make it competitive and give out prizes or just have fun playing together. Team up as parents vs kids, boys vs girls, or just every man for himself!
Hit up your local dollar store for supplies. You can find water balloons, cheap hula hoops, pool noodles, plastic balls, and so much more that you can use to create fun games to play with your family. And don’t forget to swing by and pick up hot dogs, chips, and some tasty frozen treats to enjoy at the end of the day!
Make a splash – Water play is one of the best things about summer! Whether you create sprinkler obstacle courses, play water balloon baseball, or just kick back in a wading pool to relax between events, be sure to incorporate ways to stay cool within your day of play!
Get creative – My kids had a blast when daddy figured out a way to use some branches and their angry birds toys to make their own “real life” game of Angry Birds. Take a look around your house, yard, and garage to see what you have on hand that can create a unique activity for your family!
Backyard Olympics– Foot races, softball tosses, and even a cartwheel contest (mom and dad probably should sit this one out, trust me) are a great way to put a fun, family spin on the upcoming Summer Olympic games! Make your own “medals” and have a ceremony at the end of the day where everyone walks away with the gold!
Old fashioned fun – Nothing is more fun than a fun family game of baseball, football, or soccer. Modify the rules to fit your family size and what equipment you have and play ball! It’ll be loads of fun and maybe a little extra practice time for those who participate in team sports.
Use your noodle – Pool noodles have more uses than you can even imagine! Create obstacle courses, homemade water sprinklers, or even marshmallow shooters. Check out the Pinterest board below for some ideas and tutorials!
Whatever you do on your family field day, the most important part of the day is to have fun!
