Happy Earth Day! While taking care of the Earth is important every day, today is the designated day for us to all stop and think about our environment and what we can do to help keep our planet healthy. My kids always come home excited about their school activities on Earth Day so we try to keep their enthusiasm going at home. Here are a few fun last minute ideas that you can use to celebrate Earth Day with your family.
Get Outdoors – Go on a hike, relax by a local pond, or picnic in the park! Get the whole family outside and simply enjoy all of the beauty and wonder that the Earth has to offer! Leave the tech behind and just enjoy each other and your surroundings.
Start a garden – Whether you do a small container garden with herbs or fill the whole back yard with beautiful flowers and delicious veggies, kids have a blast helping things grow and the plants will help contribute to a healthier environment.
Read together – Everyone loves sharing a good story and learning new things, so reading is a great family activity for Earth Day! Erin at A Parenting Production has some great Earth Day book recommendations for you to read with your little ones this Earth Day. Volunteer – Check out local parks and rec departments or service organizations to see if there are opportunities to volunteer. Many areas have Earth Day cleanups and other activities that allow you to give a little back to the Earth, as a family.
Make a birdfeeder – There are loads of fun craft ideas that are perfect for Earth Day, but why not make something fun AND useful! Andrea at Just Is a Four Letter Word has a fun idea for an easy-to-make birdfeeder and other fun things to do on Earth Day. Everyone will enjoy watching birds stop by for a snack and it’s a great way to learn more about what birds are native to your area. (Image credit: Andrea Updyke)
