Please join us for a very special Twitter event with actress, screenwriter, and motion picture director Nia Vardalos! She is also an adoptive mother.
On Wednesday, June 23rd at 1 pm Eastern (10 am Pacific time) we will welcome adoptive mom Nia Vardalos (@NiaVardalos) as she joins us for our next #AdoptUsKids Twitter chat about the importance of foster care and fostering to adopt.
Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated writer and actress, Nia Vardalos, of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and her husband Ian adopted a little girl from the United States foster care system in 2008. When Nia began the fostering process, she did not know if she would be able to adopt her foster daughter. But when she moved forward with the adoption, she was surprised to find that the process was not as difficult as she anticipated – now she’s here to help others learn about the fostering/fostering to adopt process!
Not only will Nia be sharing her experiences and answering questions, but experts from AdoptUsKids will also be available to answer your questions about foster care and adoption. AdoptUsKids works to increase public awareness about the urgent need for foster and adoptive families for children in foster care. They also support States, Territories and Tribes in their efforts to recruit and retain foster and adoptive families and connect them with children in foster care. AdoptUsKids is a project of the Children’s Bureau of the Administration of Children and Families, U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

I have always wanted to adopt and/or foster a child even before having my own. I'm really looking forward to this and learning a lot about it!
I hope I learn something. Thanks
I can't wait. Excellent topic and guests. Also I love that @ResourcefulMom uses her power for good not evil.

I hope to make it to this chat because I'm at work. After struggling with infertility for almost 3 years, we are moving to the next step: adoption. We are in the beginning stages and need as much information and advice that we can get.
I have had a passion for children in foster care for as long as I can remember. I guess due to having relatives who have been in and out of the system for most of their lives I wanted to be able to help other children reach the stability and family life that I was blessed with.
