A Magical Anniversary

Last week my husband and I did something that we very rarely do – we took vacation at the same time. When he travels for work, I hold down the fort at home and likewise, when I travel for work, he telecommutes, taking over my daily tasks of getting the kids ready for school and home in the afternoon.  But last week for the first time since our seven year old was two, we went away together for more than twenty-four hours.

When we told friends and family that we chose Walt Disney World as the place to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary, we definitely faced some jokes and confused looks.  Not everyone understands the romantic side to Disney.  As it turns out, the weekend was exactly what we needed.  There were so many wonderful moments in our weekend away at Walt Disney World from riding Thunder Mountain back to back at nearly one a.m. to floating on the current at Stormalong Bay, but the most magical night was our first night there.

We had 7:40 reservations at California Grill, situated on the roof of Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  When I made the reservation I let the restaurant know that we were there celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary, so not only did they seat us next to the window with a clear view of Magic Kingdom, but they also covered our table with shimmering Mickey confetti.  We had the opportunity to walk around the rooftop deck before we were seated and then enjoyed watching the sun set behind the Grand Floridian while we enjoyed an amazing meal, complete with complimentary champagne.

Once the meal was over, we were able to stay and enjoy the deck as the lights came on around Magic Kingdom.  We had a fantastic view of the Wishes fireworks complete with the music piped up to those of us viewing from the roof top deck, and even though we shared the deck with several families and other couples, it felt as though we had escaped from the world even if just for one night.

When I planned our anniversary trip to Walt Disney World I knew it would be wonderful, but I had no idea how magical Disney truly is even when you’re enjoying it kid-free.

I love that you did this! When you mentioned it before, I told my husband when we were in DW with our kids this June. A perfect place for #15, IMO. He agrees! Thanks for sharing the adventure.

Sounds amazing! My hubby and I celebrated our first anniversary at Disney. We felt like if you win the Superbowl – that’s where you go. Having a happy first year of marriage felt like winning to us so we went. We had a blast!

My hubby and I LOVE to spend time alone at Disney. When we were there for the Disneysmmoms we took a boat ride over to the Magic Kingdom just for some ice cream and to watch the fireworks.. it’s really nice..

So glad you two got to do this.
