Special Twitter Chat Monday – Sponsored by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association

Please join us Monday, March 22nd from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EST for a special Twitter event hosted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Our special guests for the conversation will be Tommie L. Robinson, Jr., PhD. CCC-SLP, President of the ASHA and Pamela Buethe, PhD, head of the audiology department at Washington, DC’s Children’s Hospital and ASHA member. These experts will be speaking about the serious dangers posed to children by listening to music too loudly with headphones. Please join us to discover what the consequences of hearing loss can be for someone (lower grades, attention difficulties) and how you, how this happens slowly over time, and how we can prevent this!

While many of us are the parents of small children, this is not only a concern for the little kids. The Kaiser Family Foundation recently reported on Generation M2: 8 – 18 year olds and the fact that they use media 53 hours per week! With this increased exposure to media comes an increased risk of hearing loss at an early age and all of the problems associated with it.

We will also have a unique opportunity to speak with Dr. Robinson about how overexposure to media can impact communication development and other issues pertaining to speech and language problems in children. Do you have questions about how to best help your child’s speech development, what problems may occur, and how to identify them? Please join us to speak directly with our special guest experts.

To participate please tweet between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. EST on 3/22 with the hashtag #ASHA and be sure to follow @ResourcefulMom and @ashahelps.
