Wendy Piersall has been blogging professionally for nearly 5 years and established herself as an early voice helping people build a business online via blogging. She has written for Entrepreneur.com and was featured on the Today Show as an advocate for mom owned online businesses. In 2009 she was named by Nielsen as one of the 16 most influential moms online. She transformed her personal blog into a powerful blog network, selling it to private investors soon thereafter. Today she runs the Woo! Wendy’s next venture is writing Mom Blogging for Dummies, due summer 2011 from Wiley Publishing. She speaks frequently at events on the subjects of business blogging & entrepreneurship.
I’m a mom to a toddler, but will soon have a larger troop since we’re in the process of adopting a through foster care.
I originally started this blog while living / traveling in the Middle East in 2004, but its purpose has morphed and changed many times along the way. Then, in 2006 when I discovered YouTube I almost forgot how to type entirely – substituting text for video blogs that have now been viewed over 8 million times. Shocking, eh?
I’ve studied Arabic and love politics + social issues which is why I got my Master’s in International Relations, with a focus on the Middle East, from Durham University in England. Our long-term plan is to move overseas (top choices currently being Beirut, Lebanon and southern Spain) so our kids can experience the world’s diversity while learning a second language.
When the blog started while living in Amman, Jordan (2004 – 2005)
I’ve been on the internet daily since I was 13 so my life’s trajectory is essentially the byproduct of unlimited dial-up internet access, AOL chatrooms and a short-lived love affair with ICQ. Social media brought me through my adolescence in the 90’s, gave me my first boyfriend and ultimately my husband Nick (we met through my blog – he was a loyal commenter).
Nick works for the family business as an arborist and is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin which explains how I ended up here despite growing up on the West Coast.
This little thing called the internet has brought amazing adventures and people into my life. Some of the most memorable events include being an official vlogger for the CNN / YouTube Democratic Presidential debate and producing a series of commentary pieces for FOX News (although I lean left). I’ve been lucky enough to have been featured by an array of online & traditional media sources including AdWeek, AOL, CNET and Weight Watchers.
After video blogging my 70lb weight loss journey with Weight Watchers, I became their digital spokeswoman and content creator… and have been working with them for over 2 years.

I’ve made 75+ videos on health and fitness for their social media channels and am passionate about empowering others to love themselves more.
I’ve also worked with other brands such as Kmart where I co-directed the online and blogger outreach initiatives for their design related webisodes, which included coordinating primary research, targeted paid placements, in-person events, and helping the company think through new policies and procedures for social media interaction.
I sometimes speak or hold workshops at blogger conferences across the country such as Blissdom and BlogHer, as well as regional social media events.
The most important people in my life are my hubby and baby.

Becoming a mom in May ‘09 has completely transformed me and this space. Baby Jude is my pride + joy and I hope someday he gets to read all of this and know just how much he is loved (and how many sleepless nights he caused).
Adopting through foster care isn’t an easy road, but so far, it’s the right one for us. I’m excited that every day that passes brings us a bit closer to bringing home a new member of the Crawford family.
Leah Segedie is a fitness matriarch in the social media realm who helps “digital moms” learn and sustain healthy living practices to combat obesity. She has lost over 170 lbs. over two pregnancies and is an inspiration to women all over the internet with her communities Bookieboo.com and Mamavation.com.
Leah was overweight most of her life. She understands the struggles and societal issues behind obesity and how it can affect a person in their everyday life. She also knows what it takes to change. Losing all that weight was not easy, but it was worth it. Not only did she gain a healthy body, but she also gained a strong sense of self. She takes the lessons she learned on that journey and mentors thousands of women online everyday.
Leah has been recognized for several feats in her professional and personal life such as being named “Mom of the Year” by Shape Magazine, compared to Lady Gaga for her unique social media tactics in The Huffington Post, and Bookieboo being named a “Favorite Weight Loss Blog” by Fitness Magazine. Her story, communities and work have also been featured in the following publications: Yahoo (front page), Ladies Home Journal, Fitness Magazine, Shape Magazine, The Huffington Post, Women’s Day, Fitness RX, Hybrid Mom, Yahoo Shine, & The Acorn.
Leah has a Masters in Communication Management from the University of Southern California. She was also Commencement Speaker during her 2001 Graduation Ceremony at the University of Southern California when she received her Bachelor’s of Arts in Communication.
She lives in Simi Valley with her husband and two young children.
Miss Lori is a Wisconsin native with a passion for children and performance. She captured everyone’s attention at the age of 4 belting out Helen Reddy’s “I am Woman Hear Me Roar” in her parents Milwaukee living room. By the age of nine she was performing throughout Wisconsin and eventually the country.
All grown up Miss Lori has a focus as an entertainer, teacher, and writer to unite families together through her artistic contributions. In 2005, already a mother of 3 and a celebrated performer, Miss Lori founded her company, The CAMPUS Inc, now known as Miss Lori’s CAMPUS. Miss Lori guides MLC with her innovative ideas creating programming, entertainment, merchandise and media that ignite the imaginations of curiously motivated children and their families.
Miss Lori launched onto the national stage when she was selected the ?rst-ever live host for the PBS KIDS PRESCHOOL BLOCK after an extensive nationwide talent search. She debuted on-air September 2006 and served as host for three fun-filled seasons.
As part of Miss Lori’s CAMPUS, Miss Lori launched a CD titled “Music n’ Movement TOGETHER!” which is a winner of the 2008 iParenting Greatest Products Media Award. Miss Lori and the CAMPUS Kids perform many of these fan favorites as a part of Miss Lori’s Family Concerts.

To build on the momentum of her CD and live tours, Miss Lori’s CAMPUS has produced a DVD called, “Activate & Be Great!” an interactive musical adventure. The DVD reinforces Miss Lori’s overall message that kids’ need to stay healthy by staying active.
2009 also brought the debut of Miss Lori’s first original theatrical production “GROWING!”. This infectious musical journey of discovery is a mixed media production featuring “Music ‘n Movement TOGETHER!” hits and “Activate & Be Great!” music videos that inspire audience participation.
Miss Lori still performs live often. She regularly teams up with WTTW-PBS Chicago to create informative and inspiring live events. In 2008 Miss Lori wrote a 10 song concert-style musical about health and nutrition, which successfully toured the Chicagoland area, promoting healthy choices for children and their families. The AWESOME Health tour is re-launching this Summer as a part of WTTW’s Great Food Fan Van Events.
This year Miss Lori created a Playstory Time program for the WTTW Readers are Leaders Library tour. It included Miss Lori’s inviting music and featured an original “Little Miss Lori” story to help promote eye health and literacy. The tour touched over 2000 children and their families. It is being re-launched this Summer as well, with performances at Chicago area zoos and museums.
Children and families across the country have fallen in love with Miss Lori’s boundless energy, passion and commitment to the development of young minds and bodies. Her ability to foster creativity and imagination is a gift to treasure for many years to come.
