Smucker’s “Spread a Little Sunshine” {Giveaway}

sugarloafThe flowering cherry outside my office window is decidedly not flowering anymore. In fact, the leaves have begun to fall, and those remaining have turned an orangish-yellow.  A couple nights this week my family went to bed with the windows still open, only to find that it was very tough to get out from under the covers because the temperature had plummeted during the night.

All of this is to say that summer is over.  However, outside fun is not.

The fall is actually one of our favorite times to enjoy the great outdoors, with bright sunshine and cooler temperatures making it easy to get out there and hike, play ball, and go on hayrides.  It’s also the perfect time to picnic, which is why Smucker’s has asked me to spread a little sunshine courtesy of Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spreads.  My family is a huge fan of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches when we head out during fall weekends, and while we fight over grape vs. strawberry, we always choose Smucker’s.

Smucker’s would like to know your fun ideas for leading a natural lifestyle, from enjoying their natural fruit products, to enjoying the great outdoors during sunny Saturdays in the fall.  One reader who comments with their response will receive the following “Spread a Little Sunshine” Tasting Kit (ARV: $185):

  • One each: Smucker’s Natural Fruit Spreads in Strawberry, Red Raspberry, Orange Marmalade, and Concord Grape (learn more about Smucker’s products at
  • Picnic basket (plates and utensils included)
  • Picnic blanket
  • Gingham spreader
  • Bocce Set – how cool is that?!?
  • Frisbee
  • $75 Amex gift card
  • Printed recipes: Chicken-Spinach Salad with Strawberry Poppy Seed Dressing; Fizzy Grape Spritzer; Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Pita Chips; Strawberry Poppy Seed Dressing; Strawberry-Mint Couscous

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents age 18 and older and ends October 5th at 11:59 p.m. ET.  Product was provided for giveaway and review. All opinions and adorable kids willing to hike mountains with me in the fall sunshine are my own.

Plant your own garden and get the kids involved. They’ll love it!

  • We keep a (very) small budget for junk food each month, and spend the rest on whole, natural foods. Having that set spending limit really helps keep us disciplined.

  • Jessica C

We joined a CSA and take our daughter to pick up weekly crops from local farmers. We are looking forward to cooler weather this fall so we can picnic outdoors again.

  • Melissa

When the weather is decent, I enjoy going to the park at least once a week and walking the trails. It’s very calming.

  • Kelly D

My fun idea is to make a picnic lunch of whole grain sandwiches and fruit and to go on a nature walk.

  • Linda Stewart

The boys love Smucker’s jams and jellies. We actually use them to sweeten hot cereal, such as Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal, instead of using sugar. We use jams for ice cream toppings also.

  • Denise M

Mmmm Jelly…. My fave thing to do outdoors is walk around Disneyland, i am not the most outdoorsy of people so i am not one to hike or picnic. That being said, nothing makes me happier than strolling down Main Street and just looking around, or people watching on a bench, or if i am adventurous, exploring Tom Sawyer Island

  • happymomc

Fall is my absolute favorite time to be outdoors – I love everything about it – the changing leaves, the crisp air, the smells etc. I love visiting the different cider mills and apple orchards with my two boys on the weekends. We go on hayrides, visit the different animals, do corn mazes and play on slides, tractor bikes, etc — always a fun afternoon out and it’s always even more fun if we are able to bring a picnic lunch along to enjoy while there to go along with fresh cider & donuts! We are huge Smucker’s fans – so you can often find them in our lunch =)

  • Fall has the BEST weather here in Arizona, we start going outside more since it is no longer in the 100 degree weather. We thought about planting trees back on Earth Day and we thought why not grow our own family tree? So on Earth Day we planted a Acacia tree, and as it grows we are going to start adding photos of the family. Each new branch we are going to add a photo. We plan on putting the pictures in frames made of recyclable materials but they need to stay protected from weather. We thought it was a good way to get the kids involved in becoming Green, appreciating family and helping our Earth at the sane time.

We like to take our inflatable kayak to the reservoir and do a little paddling, fishing, and picnicking! There are trails to hike, look for wildlife, changing leaves, and cool rocks. The boys love to bring their sack lunches and I usually make PB&J sandwiches because they don’t need refrigeration which means we can carry our lunches father and use the picnic tables out on the trails instead of the ones by the parking lot. More fun!
