This party’s hashtag has been updated!

Summer vacation may be coming to an end, but the summer heat is here to stay!  Many locations are just as hot in August and September as they are in June and July, so it remains important for parents to keep their children safe during this summer heat.  Please check out my tips for how to keep the kids safe during hot summer and early fall activities including water safety, hydration and more. Visit to not only learn more, but also enter to win a giveaway sponsored by Clorox.

To enter to win a great prize pack, return to this post on Resourceful Mommy and leave a comment with your favorite summer safety tip and something new you learned from my post on Simple and Surprising. Be sure to also check back in the future as other guest bloggers share their tips and featured giveaways.  There will also be upcoming Clorox sponsored Twitter events, so be sure to keep an eye on!  This giveaway ends 9/8 at midnight EST.

Favorite tip: Staying hydrated. Working in the ER I am seeing too many people come in with heat stroke right now!

Thing I learned: I didn’t know there was a 1800 # to help fight stains!!!

  • Billie

My favorite summer safety tip is about staying hydrated. This is so important to remember! I didn’t know there was a toll free Stain Hotline! I’m sure I will be using it!

  • Kristen Eby

My fave tip is not to leave kids unattended/unwatched at the pool. It only takes a second. My fave tip to rembember by you is Keep the playground playable. Important and often overlooked

  • I LOVE Clorox products! I can’t imagine any(clean) house lol, without bleach!

I liked the “keep the playground playable” tip…Also something I learned was that I had never heard of the dr. laundry blog(how cool!) and I didn’t know about that neat sounding “my stain” app for the iphone! Great job Amy on the post!

*the pic of you and your kids on the link is so cute!

  • Mary-Frances C.

I learned that there is actually a phone number dedicated to tough summer stains: Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411 (1-877-782-4641).

  • Linda Brooks

favorite tip: stay hydrated!! it is always hot outside so i bring a bottle with me everytime!!

  • Robyn Orme

    Sounds fun! @glassfishie

  • HappyMomC

    Can’t wait! Love clorox!

  • Laurie

Love your comment about Kiddie Pools not Kiddie Ponds – that is so true! We try not to leave water in ours, either. Thanks for the reminder!

  • Loraine

Tip I learned:Keep the kiddie pools just as clean as a bathtub!

  • I liked the topic of Kiddie Pools not Kiddie Ponds…I guess I never really thought about cleaning the pool after each use. But once I did start thinking about it, I realized how important it is.
Something I learned was that I didn’t know about the Stain hotline! That will come in handy! Thanks!

  • Lynn

    I’ll be there!

  • Lynn

I live in Florida so 2 things are must-haves: sunscreen & water

  • Lynn

I didnt know there was a Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411
I’m going to program that # into my phone

  • I learned that there is a Dr. Laundry hotline…FUNNY, but true!
    Favorite tip: Stay Hydrated!!!

  • My tip to pass on is to remember to reapply sunscreen often! Check your brand to be sure of how often, but most of them are only effective for about 90 minutes, shorter if you’re very active or swimming.

Something I learned from your post: I hadn’t thought about disinfecting the kiddie pool. I normally just rinse it out.

  • I think a good tip is knowing when to come inside after playing outside. Once his cheeks are read and the sweat is rolling down his head, I know it’s time to come in.

  • Eileen

this mom of 6 has been using Clorox products since the beginning of TIME! Well, it seems that long anyway. LOL!
I am a FREAK about grill safety AND making sure meats are cooked safely. I liked the tip about keeping a meat thermometer around to CHECK the meat temp.
I find it hard to have a kid friendly area in the kitchen AND outdoor cooking, but have learned that you can keep kids safe AND teach them if you take the TIME! cooking should not be a hurried task…kids lose out on valuable lessons this way by “shoo-ing them out” of the area. Keeping sharp/hot objects is key , of course. I gave my 13 year old his first grill lesson the other night and the biggest issue was not just about tending the food and shutting off the gas, but to handle raw meat carefully and CLEAN up is of the GREATest importance! He was SO proud!

  • Favorite tip: Don’t flip out about stains. It’s why I don’t buy my kids expensive clothes — It’s inevitable that they’ll stain them!

I learned there’s a mobile app called myStain. Now if I only had one of those phones 😉

  • Keep the playground playable. This is so important. I think alot of parents/caregivers just naturally assume that playgrounds are in ‘working’ order and they aren’t. I’ve seen chipped paint, splintering wood, glass… you name it.

My tip would be go to parks that are maintained by Parks/Recreation departments. They’re a bit more responsible when it comes to upkeep/safety issues and are usually much cleaner.

  • Shannon Flora

My favorite summer tip is to keep the kids hydrated with water and in shade.

I learned that theres a 24/hr hotline that you can call for solutions For solutions to tough stains, Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411 (1-877-782-4641).Also they have a blog where you can find solutions, you can download an app for your cell phone, ipod, ect. the advice is from professionals.

  • Favorite tip is to wear sunscreen.

Something I learned from your post is myStain is a free mobile app 😉

I’ll be attending the Twitter party also.

  • lovemy21b

    cant wait @lovemy21b

  • lovemy21b

my fave tip is Keep the playground playable

  • jennifer bowen

i’m hoping i can come to this also for some reason my blog link will not work and well for twitter name its jenny9675309

  • 1st Twitter party for me, excited!

  • Can’t wait! I love the tip about staying hydrated. It’s so important!

  • Elizabeth

my summer tip is to always have plenty of water, sunscreen and eat healthy! you never know how much these little things help you out later on!

  • Janice

I learned that to keep kiddie pools clean,
    1) dump out the water after each session
    2) disinfect it with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label

  • My favorite tip is to remember the sunscreen and bug spray. My kids are both very fair-skinned red heads and their skin turns pink as soon as the front door opens! They similarly have allergic reactions to mosquito bites, so our best plan is prevention of the bites!

I liked the reminder about kids pools, not ponds from your other post. I’m guilty of not emptying the water from our sand/water table and after *just* typing that my kids are allergic to bites, I should know better! Thanks for the reminder, Amy!

  • favorite tip: stay hydrated!!

  • Tabitha

    Can’t wait! 😀

  • I will see you at the party

My favorite tip was about the kiddie pools not ponds. Those pools get dirty and slimy so fast…definitely need to keep them clean.
I learned that there is a site called Dr. Laundry. That is awesome. I will definitely be using it in the future.

  • evelyn g.

My favorite summer safety tip is to stay hydrated. Something new I learned.. I didn’t know there was an 1800 # for stain fighting LOL.

  • Lisa Collins

I already posted what I learned from you post but I may have forgotten to add a tip.

Tip: Leave an empty kleenex box in the car for all the summer trash in the car. It is handy just to shove stuff in the box and leave it on the back seat floor until it is full. 🙂

  • Laura

I can’t wait for the party!
Favorite tip: Always wear sunscreen (that’s a given)
Thing I learned: You need to throw the water out of those kiddie pools after each use, and clean with a bleach solution.

  • Tracy P

I learned that theres a Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411. I wish I’d know about this sooner. I could have saved a lot of clothes.

  • Anne M.

Fav tip- hydration–affects so much in your body
Thing I learned–didnt know I could call an 1800 number about stains…who knew?!

  • JoAnn

I would agree with someone said earlier, drink plenty of liquids. Can’t wait to party tonight.

  • Tracy P

My favorite summer safety tip is to stay hydrated. It really easy when your playing outside to forget you need water until its to late.

  • can’t wait for tonight my favorite summer safety tips are to stay hydrated and never leave small children unattended outside.

  • mandy mccalister

I think that the best tip is to stay hydrayted, it is very important to drink a lot of water and it is healthy for you!

  • Fav tip is staying hydrated. My daughter pretty much always has a cup with her during the summer.

  • jeannine m

I like you stay hydrated tip. I always carry water with me when we are outside so no one gets dehyrdtaed

  • Kelly Ann T.

My favorite tip was for the hotline. I learned I can call Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411 (1-877-782-4641). Available 24/7 throughout the summer months, the Summer Stain Hotline allows you to select from a list of common summertime stains (sunscreen, salad dressing, ice cream, etc.) and receive expert advice.

  • My favorite tip is “Kiddie pools, not kiddie ponds”. I Didn’t know about Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline. What a great service!

  • paula pawlak

love all the tips but this one is a must in FL Keep the playground playable
I’m always having to make sure things aren’t too hot before my babes touch the equipment.

    thanks for another party

  • Donna Boruff

The Stain Hotline I am on it !! I have wasted a lot of money up until now! I def. wasn’t skilled on getting stains out of clothes! I am so thankful!! (Soccer Just started) finally be able to save some money Yay! Excited for tonight Thanks!

  • Sadie

My favorite is the #4 – Take these cues about BBQs. We set ground rules before we get out at a BBQ.

  • evic

fav tip: Don’t flip out about stains.

Also I learned to how to clean a kiddie pool:) – Dump out the water after each session, and keep it clean by disinfecting it with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label.

  • My Summer (and always) advice is sunscreen! Even in the shade. I also agree 100% about the kiddies pool. Empty & disinfect after each use. Standing water also attracts mosquitos.

I didn’t know about the Stain Hotline!

  • Tara F.

    Can’t wait

  • Stephanie

    Can’t wait!

  • Karla Sceviour

My favorite tip is to always bring water with you wherever you go,very important to stay hydrated!
I learned theres a toll free stain!

  • Jenna O.

    My favorite tip:

Keep the playground playable. Playgrounds are built for kids, but they’re not always kid-ready. Before you let kids loose at a playground, make sure the equipment is safe to use. Swing seats and slides can really absorb the sun’s heat, so to avoid burned backsides, test them out before the kids jump on! Additionally, many playgrounds today have soft rubberized ground coverings—these are great for preventing injuries if your kids happen to fall down. All playground equipment should be checked routinely for any broken or loose parts. And of course, adult supervision is always a must!

  • My favorite summer safety tip is to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen when staying outdoors. What I learned from your article is that we can disinfect our kiddie pool with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water. Thanks for the tip!

  • My tip is to drink water even if not thirsty. This is my first Twitter party!

  • amy byrd

I learned to stay hydrated. The saftey tp we use is to always be aware of your surroundings. We have Snakes around here.

  • Jessie O

I carry an aluminum water bottle everywhere we go so we are sure to stay hydrated. I love the tip about Dr. Laundry!!

  • Andrea S.

    Looking forward to the shindig!

  • Jill H

    @jillyrh – see you tonight! <3

  • Jill H

My favorite tip is: Be healthy, stay hydrated. Spending time in the heat means that you’re more prone to dehydration.

I learned from your post: For solutions to tough summer stains, call Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411 (1-877-782-4641).

  • Jennifer Peters (@JK8675309)

    Looking forward to it 🙂

  • NJJ

Learned that kiddie pools can harbor just as much bacteria as a standard swimming pool! Also my fave tip is “Keep Playgrounds Playable” I agree about testing playground equipment before the kids. Sometimes parents don’t realize just how hot playground equipment can be until they’ve been burned or their child has been burned.

  • Mary C.

My Favorite Tip is to always have Benadryl with you to administer just in case someone gets stung by wasps, bees, yellow jackets, etc.

And, something new I learned from your post:

There is a hotline for Tough Summer Stain Solutions. This is it: Dr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline at 1-877-STAIN-411 (1-877-782-4641). Available 24/7 throughout the summer months.

    Hope to make it tonight!

  • Mary C.

    Post 66 cont.:

    Forgot to say I’m @swtthing3

  • Melanie Calcut

My summer tip is don’t forget the sunscreen and stay hydrated.

  • Rikki P

I guess I messed up becuase it’s coming up Rikki instead of @_mongoose lol

  • Safety tip is to always remember sun screen no matter if its sunny out or not.

one thing I learned is that there is a summer stain hotline, how cool!

  • Amber Smith

Phew, you’re back – I was beginning to suffer twitter party withdrawl, lol

    Tweet u there 😉

  • Amber Smith

Sorry for the double comment but I didn’t realize it was “this post” that I had to leave a comment about your best tip. I would say disinfecting the kiddie pool is one of the most important tips. So many parents just leave the water in the pool for weeks at a time (yikes) Also, I like to toss the toys in to clean them as well every so often just to be safe.

  • Janet Carpenter

My fave tip was the cues on bbqs “Still, BBQs also tend to involve plenty of items that are decidedly not kid-friendly: raw meat, pointy instruments, and open flames. Make sure you have an eye on your kids at all times”

  • jessica

@jessis_madonna follow on twitter love a great party

  • Colleen

This is going to be awesome!

  • The hydrated tip is GREAT!! I also need to take to heart the don’t worry about stains love that new tip for me. I am always stressing about mud and grass stains cuz I know it is work for me 🙂 I just want my kids to have fun!!

  • Cindy Moore

My favorite summer safety tip is to stay hydrated. I learned to clean and disinfect the kiddy pool with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label.

  • Filtered Water made into Ice Cubes then added to the boys Stainless Steele BPA free water bottles, keeps things colder longer. I throw in the ice cubes, add more filtered water (sometimes I use the PUR – flavored filtered water) and away they go. It encourages them to remain hydrated throughout the hot summer days.
I also make gatorade ice cubes for their water bottles when they head to the gym. No watered down sports drink for them this way. If they don’t like it they won’t drink it. Teenagers are funny that way 😉

Something New — I had no idea there was a Dr. Laundry blog, let alone a Dr. Laundry Stain line… why didn’t I know about this before? It’s not just the summer months that get the boys (and their clothes) filthy, but back to school, which means back to sports (football, soccer anyone?) — means stains and all sorts of food stuffs (ummm napkins boys – napkins!)….

  • Anna

    Can’t wait till tonight

  • julie sharwtz

    RSVP woot woot party @waterbluffy

  • Christina Z

Hope its not too late to come to the party I would love to come

  • shawna

I learned that you need to dump out plastic pools each time you use it. Dump out the water after each session, and keep it clean by disinfecting it with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label. (Also, I know it can also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes if you don’t dump it out…ewww.)

  • hey there…at the party 🙂

  • Cheryl Billings

My favorite summer safety tip is drinking lots of fluids..

  • Ann A

@TippytoeMom on Twitter I’m at the party! 🙂

My tip is to keep your yard trim and free from insects (mosquitoes) with spray and reg. mowing.

From the Simple and Surpr. website:

  • Brenda Townsend

@Texasl8dy says drink lots of water and use sunscreen in the hot Texas sun

  • stephanie

    @soulfliesfree on twitter

  • Cathy S

Use bleach to clean (grand)kids toys

  • Yunet C

They were all good tips but my favorite tip from Simple and Surprising was the Be healthy, stay hydrated. And my avorite summer safety tips are to always have water on hand, wipes to disinfect, and mosquito repellent.

  • Love the tip about bleaching the pool. I never thought of that and usually just rince it out.

  • Wow this is sweet clean good news to me! Mr. Laundry’s toll-free Summer Stain Hotline !!
Thanks for sharing all your clean and healthy tips!
    I retweeted it too! ☺
