Several months ago I left church with a burning a desire – it literally felt like a fire inside of me – to start a Christian mom blog. My hope was that those of us who blog about parenting, frugal living, organization, giveaways, reviews…and also happen to be Christian…could show another side to ourselves and at the same time become a source of comfort or even knowledge to readers who may not know that side of us or may not know us at all. While my faith has occasionally made its way on to the pages of Resourceful Mommy, I didn’t feel like I wanted to focus on writing about my faith on this site. Unfortunately, time constraints have kept me from getting much further than choosing a blog name, buying a URL, and designing a site.
I can no longer use lack of time as an excuse for not blogging what is in my heart from time to time. I’ve chosen to occasionally feature “Living Font” posts on Sundays here at Resourceful Mommy and abandon my idea to create a separate site with guest bloggers. Today is hopefully the first of many Living Font posts, and I hope that this feature becomes something that Resourceful Mommy readers enjoy.
Seek Ye First
A year ago I wrote about how I came to this strange world of blogging. To say it was divine inspiration might sound more than a little crazy, but the fact of the matter is that I put all my eggs in the Matthew basket one day while sitting in church.
Matthew 6:33 is a verse that floats through my mind from time to time because of a song from church camp when I was about ten or eleven. There are few lines of scripture that I remember as well, and this one has brought me comfort and focus many times.
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
I thought that I understood this passage, but this morning my pastor brought us not only to Matthew 6:33, but to Matthew 6:31, 32 as well. I believe today was the first time I put this favorite verse in the context of its surrounding verses.
Matthew 6:31, 32 – Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
This was the first time that I realized what the “things” were that would be provided for me. In my despair two years ago, I called out to God and asked him to provide fulfillment in my life where I felt it was lacking. At the same time, my husband and I had recommitted our lives to our Faith, had become members of a church family that we love, and made the decision as well to trust our finances to Him. What are the “things,” then? I do not believe for a moment that it is a coincidence that as I became more honest with myself and those around me about my own Faith, as my family and I focused more of our attention on His will, that more and more blessings were added onto our lives.
Why Matthew 6:33 today? Because today is a day to be thankful, to be gracious. It is a day to acknowledge the joy and blessings that surround me, to cast off worry and doubt, and to refocus myself on living the life I was meant to live and counting the blessings, not the worries in my life. Today I will be sure to seek Ye first….
