Hickory Farms Giveaway

This time of year there is so much focus on both gift giving and giving back that it can become overwhelming both to plan as well as to budget.  Like most people, I try to use some of my holiday budget to make end of year charitable contributions both by donating money as well as toys and other holiday items.  But also like most of you, my gift-buying list seems to grow longer and longer every year, and the items on my children’s Santa list seem to be  becoming more and more expensive as they get older.

Thankfully, many brands have gotten in the holiday spirit as well and are offering gifts that also contribute to some of my favorite charities.  I have written in the past about Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® Campaign, which is working to end child hunger in the United States.  Hickory Farms has partnered with Share Our Strength to offer the Party Planner Gift Box, which retails for approximately $50 and includes a $5 donation with purchase to the No Kid Hungry® Campaign.  I had the opportunity to taste test this package, which I took with me to my brother’s home for our family’s Thanksgiving celebration.  The variety of cheeses such as Smoked Gouda and Farmhouse Cheddar went perfectly both with the Hickory Farm Signature Beef Summer Sausage and other meats as well as the Sweet Hot Mustard and Cranberry Mustard.  The party box also includes two nut mixes, perfect for snacking between meals at your holiday get-togethers.

Not only is the Hickory Farms Party Planner gift box perfect to put out between meals when you’re hosting family, but it also makes a great gift and can be sent directly to the recipients home.  We love to give these types of gifts to family we will not have an opportunity to see because it gives not only to the recipient, but also to everyone they are sharing the holiday with where they live.  If you’re visiting friends or family for the holidays, the Hickory Farms Party Planner gift box also makes a great hostess gift!

Giveaway

One Resourceful Mommy reader will win a Hickory Farms Party Planner gift box! To enter to win, please share in the comments one of your own family giving traditions around the holidays.  Do you like to send food and wine gifts to family you will not see?  Do you typically take a hostess gift when staying with family?  Is there an organization you donate to every year?

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents age 18 or older and ends Friday, December 7th at 11:59 p.m. ET.  Product was provided for review and giveaway.

We have Christmas with the family every Christmas eve than off to midnight mass. I love to bake and make goodies to share with family. And I always take a hostess goodie plate or box to parties we attend. My favorite homemade thing to do is 3 different cookies, peanut brittle, spiced nuts, and hard candy. If I knew how to make fudge I would add that in 😉 And as for the Hickory Farms meat and cheese baskets – pair with a great bottle of wine and you have just made someone’s day!! Great to give and receive!

  • I usually make big candy and bread gift baskets for our extended family. Takes a lot of work, but I’m proud of my big baskets of yum.

I love baking and I bake tins of cookies every year and give them out to family, friends, teachers etc. Every year they look forward to my decorated sugar cookies. Very time consuming but worth it! Every year we also sponsor a family and we buy the gifts off their list for Christmas. This makes me feel so good to be able to help. It also teaches my kids a very important lesson!

  • Do you like to send food and wine gifts to family you will not see?
Yes, because it’s usually a safe choice–tasty food gets eaten!
Do you typically take a hostess gift when staying with family?
I nearly always take a hostess gift, unless there is no room in my suitcase; in which case I send a gift after the visit.
Is there an organization you donate to every year?
Yes, Toys for Tots (at Christmastime)!

  • We always have sour dough pancakes Christmas morning!

Also, I do order gifts online for those we can’t be with. I have them sent directly to their homes so that I don’t have to pay shipping.

We live in a rural area, so we don’t have curbside recycling. But we collect our cans throughout the year and take them to the recycling center in December. Whatever we collect, we add a little to then the extended family pools their money and donates to a cause close to our hearts for that year. So, the year my husband’s uncle passed away from cancer, we gave the money to the hospice organization that cared for him at home in his last months.

The kids and I love to make holiday cookies as gifts for teachers, baby sitters, neighbors and anyone else who helps us throughout the year. We always buy some Christmas containers then make about 6 or 7 different kinds of cookies. It is so much fun to cook with the kids and also give to others!

  • I make pretty cookie plates with all different types of Christmas Cookies on decorate Christmas plates (you can usually get them from the .99 store). I wrap with green or red cellophane and green red and white curly ribbon. I also make plates of struffoli (If you don’t know what that is, you MUST try!) and give them out to relatives. It’s always a hit, and a nice gesture for someone who you don’t necessarily need to buy a gift for, but want to do something nice for during the holidays.

Last night, I was in Wal Mart picking up a few things and was waiting in the 20 items of less line. There was an older gentleman and his wife(in a wheel chair),then a young man (only buying 2 rotisserie chickens) , then me. The older man went to pay for his items and the card reader would not read his bank card. The teller tried everything…but it just wouldn’t work. When asked if he had any other way to pay …the older man, somewhat embarassed and frustrated said, “no.” Then, the younger man behind him offered to pay for his items. I think his items were around $52.00. I loved the look on the older mans face. It was awesome. I thought that was really nice and I think doing something like it will become a tradition for us. We could make a huge difference in someonelse’s day.
