If you’re like me, you’re beginning to work on putting the Easter Bunny stash together, in preparation for setting out the kids’ Easter baskets in a couple of weeks. I love giving the kids a few favorite candy treats in their baskets, but including some non-candy items is, for me, just a sound parenting decision. In our area, spring break typically begins on Good Friday, so I’m trapped in the house with kids who have the knowledge that there is a basket of candy with their name on it. Instead, I find ways to incorporate fun things to help keep them occupied over break into their Easter goodies.
- DVDs are a great addition to Easter baskets, especially if there is a recent release that they’ve been waiting for.
- Older kids may be excited by movie passes, gift cards for an app store or music downloads, or a card for a favorite restaurant that can be used over break or a long weekend.
- Items for outdoor play are always a fun addition. Think about adding a new kite, some sidewalk chalk, bubbles, or even something for outdoor water play in their Easter goodies.
- If budget allows, create your baskets with a summer fun theme and include passes to a local water or amusement park. You can add sunglasses, goggles, sunscreen, and other small goodies that fit in to fill out the basket.
- If your Easter budget is a little low, create some fun coupons for the kids, like a chore pass, an extra hour of screen time, choosing a special meal on a weekend, or similar fun treats that won’t break the bank.
- If your kiddos love watching things grow, a seed starter kid or mini-garden would be a fun spring themed gift to include for Easter.
- If you attend church or have traditional Easter brunch or dinner plans, a new outfit or some accessories can also be included in their baskets.
