Friday Featured Giveaway: LeapFrog Donors Choose Charity Campaign

As many of you know, I began my professional life as a teacher, first teaching English and literature to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and eventually ending my time in the field of education teaching 8th grade English along with 7th and 8th grade drama.  Along the way I tutored kids in everything from basic math to SAT prep and spent countless hours directing school musicals.  I know first hand that no teacher works only forty hours a week and “summers off” is truly a misnomer.  For this reason, I love charities that support teachers such as and have written about them in the past.

DonorsChose helps fund school projects in support of education and literacy, and LeapFrog – also an early literacy advocate – is supporting this worthy charity.  LeapFrog is no stranger to giving.  Since 2009, LeapFrog has donated more than $1.5 million in Tag Reading Systems and books to the classrooms of more than 20,000 students.  But they don’t want to stop there.  Instead, they want to help bring $100,000 total in Tag Readers and books to classrooms in need, and they’ve partnered with to help teachers who want Tag Readers and books for their classrooms.

Today’s Friday Featured Giveaway combines a charity that I love and a brand that my entire family loves!  LeapFrog has provided me with a $25 gift card to support a school of my choice via DonorsChoose, and one Resourceful Mommy reader will have the chance to do the same.

One reader will receive the following:

  • $25 gift card to DonorsChoose to support the school of their choice
  • LeapFrog Tag reader and six books

This giveaway is open to U.S. readers age 18 and older (no P.O. boxes, please) and ends February 17th at 11:59 p.m. ET.  Books shown in the image are not necessarily the books in the prize pack.

  • Mr. Trebilcock. (Yeah, I know.) He never gave me the side-eye when I finished my work before the other kids, or when I wanted to read during recess. And unlike my other teachers at that school (we moved a lot, but this was the school I was at the longest), he NEVER told me that the reason J.T. was bullying me was because he liked me!

  • It’s a tie between Mr. Sandomir, my 5/6th grade English teacher who gave us lots of flex time and writing to music–which inspired me to be creative in all kinds of new ways, and Mr. Berkowitz, my middle school English teacher who did an awesome Grover impression 🙂

  • My favorite teacher was my 6th grade teacher mrs. Boyle. I remember she was always kid and fair, and she let us talk during class. At the end of the day, we would have free, ir flex, time. She would ways let us socialize. To a 10 year old girl, that made hermy favorite teacher, by ar.

  • Mr. Wegryzn, my 11th grade English teacher. He was awesome, learned so much and he wrote me an awesome letter to get into college!

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Menor, our AGT teacher in elementary school. She made me believe I was smart, creative, and capable of anything I put my mind to. Even after all these years, I think of her all the time and am grateful I had the chance to know her.

  • My favorite teacher was Mrs. Z, in high school. I was a good student, but involved with the wrong crowd. We live in a small city, and she saw me walking down her block with my boyfriend and a cigarette in my hand. She gave me a lecture, in front of the entire class, about how the boy was no good for me, I shouldn’t be smoking and doing God knows what else, etc.etc.etc. I was so embarrassed, but it meant a lot that she cared enough to do that. I know she did it to send the same message to other people in the class. I became a teacher, and also became her colleague for 3 years. On my 1st day, she announced to the staff (once again embarrassing me lol), “This is Melissa! She was one of my students!” In the 3 years I worked with her, I could never bring myself to call her by her 1st name!
