Everything You Need to Know.
It’s mid-September. You finished your Back-to-School shopping a month ago…along with your Back-to-School budget. Only now your daughter realizes she doesn’t have a blah-blah-blah or your son really needs a pair of yada yada’s.
What’s a mom to do?
I was offered a $25 T.J.Maxx gift card to experience the “off-price” shopping experience available at both T.J.Maxx and Marshall’s. I already love T.J. Maxx – there’s one five minutes from my home – but I thought for this piece it might be fun to issue myself a challenge. Could I buy my daughter the clothing item that she feels her back-to-school closet is missing and buy something for my home…all for $25 or less?
The challenge began with a question to Emma – what one clothing item are you missing?
The five year old answer? A silky dress. Now the challenge became more interesting. Not only would I be putting the off-price shopping of T.J.Maxx to the test, but also the fashion forward, designer label availability. That was not my intention in writing this post! Emma and I very quickly found cute dresses and even some very inexpensive items that I thought her closet really needed – like a sweater whose sleeves actually reach her wrists. But would you believe that right there before us on the clearance rack was the silky dress…and in Emma’s favorite color?
Finding the dress was one exciting step in the right direction, but I still wanted something for my home. After all, I still have a forsythia wreath hanging on my door, and since my forsythia bushes dropped their yellow, spring flowers months ago, it seemed like the right time to put away the wreath, too.
To complicate matters – the dress is DKNY. I warned Emma not to get her hopes up, after all, this was a $25 challenge, not a shopping spree.
The DKNY price was $98. Ouch…
The T.J. Maxx price was $15. Time to find my home item!
With just $10 remaining I found just the thing I needed for my lost-in-spring front door, and it only cost $7.99 So what can you get for $25 at T.J.Maxx? A silky DKNY dress for a five year old girl and a fall themed “Welcome” sign for my front door (and there’s still money on the gift card!).
Are you ready to take the $25 off-price challenge at Marshall’s? Do you think you can find what you need and what you want for just $25? Tell me here and I’ll send one of you a $25 Marshall’s gift card!
– Comment to this post telling me what you want to buy at Marshall’s with the $25.
