Back to School with Kohl’s

I’ve been avoiding thinking about back to school and enjoying every last moment of summer fun.  But the truth is that back-to-school is already here for many of you and right around the corner for us.

Nothing gets me more motivated to prepare for back to school than a shopping challenge.  While I really don’t typically enjoy shopping,  I do enjoy saving.  Sure, it’s fun to pick out cute notebooks and cool gel pens, but finding the right clothing and shoes for two growing kids can be a challenge.  This year I had my hands especially full because both of my kids just went through a growth spurt.  In fact, my daughter’s feet grew 2.5 sizes since the last time we purchased shoes a few months ago!

I headed off to Kohl’s with my nine year old and a $500 gift card provided by Kohl’s for the challenge, and together we set out to buy everything the kids need for the fall and winter: clothes, shoes, pajamas, undies, socks, and shoes – all within the $500 limit.

Before we left, however, I decided to take things up a notch.  We timed our shopping trip to coincide with a weekend of extra savings throughout the store, and we also took along my 20% savings pass that I received in the mail.  Taking advantage of the in-store sales and the “Yes Pass,” my daughter and I spent exactly $499.85.  I handed the clerk the provided gift card, and she handed me back fifteen cents in change.  For that amount we were able to purchase:

While the total spent was $499.15, the total saved is even more impressive – $571.54, PLUS I received $90 in Kohl’s cash to spend on myself when I return next week.  Free money, baby!  Check out our haul…

Want your own Kohl’s back-to-school savings?  There are still plenty savings events happening at Kohl’s between now and the end of the back-to-school season.  You can learn more – and shop! – at Kohls.com.

Disclosure: I was provided with a $500 gift card to use in the writing of this post.  No other compensation was provided.  All opinions are my own.
