Special Twitter Chat – Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving

School is out, the temperatures are rising, and the summer picnic season has begun! This is the time of year when families get together for barbeques and picnics, and they often enjoy icy cold beverages . . . sometimes alcoholic. This Fourth of July, will you be on the road with your family? Who will be sharing that road with you?

In 2008, there were a total of 491 motor vehicle traffic fatalities during the Fourth of July Holiday Period (Thursday, July 3rd, 6 pm to Monday, July 7th, 5:59 am). Out of that number, 43% involved a driver or motorcycle rider with a BAC of .08 or higher. Those numbers are very real for the families who have lost a loved one to a drunk driver.

Join us Thursday, July 1st from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. EDT for a sobering discussion about #BuzzedDriving on Twitter. We need to reach as many people as possible to help spread the word about the dangers of buzzed driving and how they can take a few simple steps to prevent a fatal crash this Fourth of July.

Buzzed Driving IS Drunk Driving – Help us to spread that message this summer season by joining our discussion, learning how you can prevent buzzed driving, sharing your stories and non-alcoholic drink ideas and asking questions of the experts from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
