Resourceful Rewind: The Best of 2009

blackrectangle

As we begin 2010, I thought I’d take a moment to remember some of my favorite posts from 2009. Hopefully you’ll find a few new tips or enjoy a laugh or two. Happy New Year!

Organizing
Try using bins and baskets in unusual places and watch the clutter disappear!

Every time I follow this e-mail management strategy, my life becomes so much easier….until I stop following it again.

I cannot say enough about the peace of mind I receive from using the Mozy electronic file back-up service. It’s one less thing for this busy mom to worry about.

This over-the-door organizational strategy takes “going vertical” to a whole new level.

Giving my kids their own space in the entry way continues to pay off in our organizational lives!

If your child’s school has ever asked you to bring mini-muffins to any event, you must read this mini-muffin post.

Parenting
Should I give my children fish oil supplements? An “Ask Resourceful Mommy” answer.

Appetite Slump – dealing with this incredibly common toddler issue.

How to remove the onion smell from your hands – this post may save your day (Psst! It really works!)

Creative and personal end of year teacher gift that is inexpensive and simple to make.

The next time you take a meal to a mom in need, keep the kiddos in mind with this easy gift idea for kids.

People management skills turned into parenting strategies that work!

What is a night terror and how should you handle it?

While “parenting tips for the tired mommy” was a fun, tongue-in-cheek post to write, there are actually some fun strategies in there for the slacker mom in all of us.

Are you using honest language to teach your children the value of truth?

My absolute favorite parenting post of all time: The Marshmallow Hypothesis.

Through my work with Global Influence (formerly the Momfluence network), I have had the opportunity to spread the word about many important issues, but one issue that I found especially compelling was child passenger safety. With such wonderful and free resources available, no parent should feel the need to bypass important child passenger laws.

Just Me
I Used to Be Angry” – For everyone who has asked in the last year how I’m able to handle cruddy junk that happens when you work online, this is the best response I can ever give.

Recently Overheard” – You’ve got to read it to believe it.

My Lifelong Journey Towards Health” – I’m trying again with renewed focus. Join me on my journey?

Teaching the Value of Family” – The importance of teaching our children to value their relatives.

Apply Your Mask First” – A must-read for every burned out parent.

Back Off, Lit Mag Snobs” – Just a post about a girl and her world.

Thank You, Jessica” – Sometimes it takes a little divine inspiration and a muffin to send you on the right path.

A PR Black Out” – As much as it makes me cringe to think about it, this post launched some great conversations. Do I still agree with every word? No. Does that chick at CNET still need to take a long walk off a short pier? You ‘betcha.

When the World Turns Upside Down” – Finding hope in hopelessness.

A Year in Reviews – some of my favorites!
You Can Make This – I look at the projects I’ve made from this review, and I wish each time that I had more free time to complete more. This really is a great site.

KidzMed Thermofocus – This thermometer has saved the day countless times this year. I still recommend it whole-heartedly.

Pledge Multi-Surface – I don’t know what’s in here, and I don’t want to know. All that I care about is how easy it makes cleaning, which is my least favorite thing to do in the world.

Yanni Voices – Not only did I thoroughly enjoy seeing this live performance, but I continue to listen to the CD over and over again. Even my five year old daughter loves them, especially Nathan’s operatic charms.

Netflix – When the free trial ran out, we signed up for more movie goodness!

Spilt Milk – One of the best books I’ve reviewed.

Disney Advice and Memories
In May I surprised my family with a Disney getaway weekend. It was one of the most impulsive and memorable experiences of my life.

I asked the Twitter community to share why they love Disney, then shared some of their answers with all of you!

If you’re planning a Disney vacation in 2010, this information about how to get a free Disneyworld park ticket is a must read.

The trip that my daughter and I took to New York City for the world premiere of Disney’s Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure was one of the most memorable days of my life.

While I love to eat, it really took a guest post from AJ at Disney Food Blog to explain that Disney is a foodie’s paradise.

This post is a great place to start if you’re interested in staying on property at Walt Disney World.

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you’ll stick around for another resourceful year!
