Festive Friday: Fall Kid Craft Ideas

There’s something about the fall season that makes me feel a little more crafty than usual. I’m not sure if it’s the beautiful colors or the promise of the holidays to come but every year in autumn, I simply want to create.  I love to sit down at the table with my kids, some crafting supplies, and have a great afternoon of giggles and creativity. If you’re inspired by the season and want to have some quality time crafting with your kids, here are a few fun ideas to help you get the party started:

One of my favorite fall kid crafts is to make “stained glass” window decorations. Simply take beautiful fall leaves or construction paper cutouts in fun fall shapes and lay flat on wax paper. Sprinkle crayon shavings over your leaves. Cover with another sheet of wax paper, then iron on a warm setting until the wax paper and crayon shavings have melted together. Once cool, you can create a frame with construction paper and then hang in your window to let the sun shine through.

Alli at No Time for Flashcards made adorable hot glue and watercolor leaves with her little ones. This fun craft will let them use their imaginations to create leaves of any shape, size, and color with a 3D accent provided by the hot glue.

luminaries

Light up your evening with easy fall luminaries that kids can help make from Ang at Untrained Housewife. Made with fall-themed Washi tape and canning jars, this craft would be a great decoration for the porch or as part of seasonal table decorations.

placemats

Also keep the little ones entertained through dinner with Ang’s DIY chalkboard place mats. Let them decorate the frames with fun fall stickers and designs during craft time, then they can enjoy their creation at the dinner table.
