Happy Anticipation

onthenightbeforechristmas

Confession: I started listening to Christmas music a couple days ago, clearly breaking the No Christmas Music Before Thanksgiving Rule that I set for myself. I also bought a Christmas tree – one of the first ten they sold, apparently – and have been diffusing Thieves and Peppermint essential oils for days.

I love Christmas.

This lyric from one of my favorite Amy Grant Christmas songs beautifully captures the essence of what makes Christmas so magical – happy anticipation. As someone who at times suffers from depression, happy anticipation is a feeling that often eludes me. I feel its absence rather than its magic. During the Christmas season, however, the air around me seems to be buzzing with energy. “I’ll lift you up and blaze with you across the moonlit sky on the night before Christmas…”

I’ve decided to capture some of that magic this Advent season by writing a series of blog posts celebrating this time of year, the wonder and the miracle as we anticipate the birth of the Savior of the world. My hope is that each post will unfold before you the meaning of Advent, providing you and your family with ways to savor the glory of these days, the magic of happy anticipation.

Will you join me on this journey as we prepare for the birth of our Lord?

So inspiring. This just lifted my spirit. It was so refreshing to hear about the birth of our Lord with such wonderful child like faith and anticipation. Thank you for reminding us that Jesus is the reason for the season.
