American Girl Girl of the Year Saige

My eight year old daughter has fallen in love with American Girl almost exclusively through their line of books including the historical fiction, advice, and activity lines.  As a mother-daughter pair we are reading The Care and Keeping of You, and right now my daughter is planning a sleepover with the American Girl title, Slumber Wonders.  Her favorites, however, remain the titles featuring the stories of the girls who have come to life as dolls on the shelf and in my daughter’s imagination through the pages of the books she reads, including the Girl of the Year books.

I am excited to announce that the American Girl Girl of the Year for 2013 is Saige.

My daughter had the opportunity to get to know Saige through her first book Saige  by author Jessie Haas.  Saige lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she is entering fourth grade. Her favorite things are painting and riding horses, two activities that my daughter also enjoys.  This year’s American Girl Girl of the Year will also be featured in the book Saige Paints the Sky, another title by author Jessie Haas and illustrator Sarah Davis.  In the activity line of books, Express Yourself: Use Art to Explore the Emotions Inside You! will follow Saige’s passion for painting and expressing herself creatively.  All three titles as well as the Girl of the Year doll and accessories are available beginning January 1st in American Girl retail stores as well as at AmericanGirl.com.

The first title in this Girl of the Year series, Saige, explores the topic of preserving the arts in education.  To follow this theme, American Girl is sponsoring a school grant contest and partnering with Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and education.  This charitable program titled “Shine On Now” will financially support the Arts Education Program component of Americans for the Arts, providing art education professionals with the resources they need.  This contest begins January 1st and ends May 31st of next year.  For more information, ask your child’s art teacher to visit AmericanGirl.com/GirloftheYear.  Additionally, children can visit this site to enter the Soar with Saige Sweepstakes to enter to win one of ten prize packages.  For parents seeking additional activities beyond the three Saige related books, visit AmericansForTheArts.org/go/AmericanGirl.

From one American Girl family to another, happy holidays!

The book Saige was provided for review. All opinions are my own and mine of my daughter.
