Ragu Mom’s the Word on Dinner $250 Giveaway

I spent the second half of 2011 as a Ragu Mom’s the Word on Dinner ambassador because not a single week goes by without us using Ragu in at least one meal.  I truly love this product, and through this program I have had the privilege of learning more about not only changes made to lower sodium and increase the number of servings of vegetables in their sauces, but also about the creation process from the farm to the table.  My family has also tried a variety of new recipes during my time as a Mom’s the Word on Dinner ambassador, and I wrote previously about my two favorites – no fry chicken parm and roasted ratatouille wraps.

As I wrap up my time in this brand ambassador program, I want to close out with a huge giveaway to thank you for joining me on this dinner time journey! So much time is spent planning and preparing dinners over the holidays that by the time January comes around, most parents just want something easy.  One of the aspects of Ragu that I have always loved is that they combine easy with nutritious and flavorful.  Ragu also provides parents with great recipe ideas, most of which my kids actually enjoy.  Even as I type this, I am planning on a veggie stir fry over a bed of whole wheat pasta topped with Ragu Old World Traditional for dinner tonight.

Now it’s your chance to tell me what quick and easy dinner recipe works in your home and enter for a chance to win.  One Resourceful Mommy reader will receive $250 in American Express gift cards to be used to buy all of the delicious ingredients their family loves – including their favorite Ragu!

Enter to Win

To be entered to win, please leave a comment telling us your go-to easy meal idea that makes everyone in the family happy!  If you’ve got a recipe to share with us, that’s even more helpful.

This giveaway is open to U.S. residents age 18 and older.  One entry per reader, please.  This giveaway ends Tuesday, January 31st at 11:59 p.m. ET

This post was created in connection with my appointment as an Ambassador in the Ragú® Mom’s the Word on Dinner Program. Visit www.facebook.com/ragusauce to join the conversation.

THANKS to YOU, he now has his favorite meal very often….again, THANK YOU!!!!

An easy-peasy, fulfilling, go-to meal for my family on a hectic night includes opening a package of frozen (or dried) tortellini and boiling it for the few minutes as instructed on package, then draining the pasta and returning it back to large pan, next adding (2) jars of Ragu classic alfedro sauce, and lastly adding (2) small pounches of already prepared real bacon pieces. (Could also use chicken or ham in place of bacon). Heat up a bag of our own garden green beans and there you have it, a quick, fulfilling dinner.

  • Debra G

My go to meal/meal plan is this:

I put a bunch of chicken or beef in the crockpot on Monday. That night, we have chicken dinner for example. The next night, I make chicken spaghetti. Then I break it up with something else the next night. After that, chicken and dumplings for example. So many variations that can be made with one meat in the crockpot. Easy peasy 🙂

One time a week of cooking, and eat the whole week. As the mother of a teenage boy, it works very well too because that child tries to eat me out of house and home 🙂 It’s easier that he knows he can have at whatever meat is in the frig, and I know he’s not filling up on junk.

Cook pasta a couple minutes less than on package. Mix together sausage, ground beef, ricotta with eggs & parsley and alittle sauce. Put sauce on bottom of 13 X 9 pan. Put layer of pasta on top of sauce, top with sausage and hamburg mixture. Put another layer of pasta, then sauce, then hamburg/sausage mixture. Top with another layer of pasta, sauce, then put mozzarella cheese on top and bake for about 30 minutes covered with foil @350 degrees.

Being carb watchers, baked tomatoes is a hot, easy, and quick lunch meal that we all love.

    Thick Tomato Slices
    Ragu Sauce
    Mozzarella Cheese
    Garlic Salt
    Parsley
    Oregano
    Bacon Grease

Place tomato slices on a foiled, lightly greased baking pan. Sprinkle garlic salt on tomatoes. Spoon Ragu sauce on each tomato. Sprinkle Mozzarella cheese. A couple dashes of parsley and oregano atop the cheese. Add a few drops of bacon grease atop each. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Tops will be slightly brown. Very tasty!

  • Honestly, nothing like making some pasta
-stirring up some of your favorite veggies
-heating up oil and garlic and then tossing in cooked pasta for taste. (we skip this part now, but just as good & fast)
Serve together with favorite sauce. 🙂

My go-to dinner is a black bean enchilada. I use corn tortillas a can of black beans, enchilada sauce and some cheese. I am so glad we all like it. I have two little ones and my 4 year old is extremely picky, most nights I’m making 2 different dinners. I am glad she likes black beans because they are very healthy! Now if I could get her to eat any green vegetable at all…maybe next year 🙂

  • Our fave is shrimp parm using Ragu sauce of course! I like to use the large Tiger Prawns and split them down the middle which keeps the cheese on top from sliding off of it, it comes out super cheesy and delicious!

A favorite is a simple spagetti supper.

1 jar Ragu (your favorite flavor!)
    1 package linguini dry noodles
1 8oz or 16 oz can tomato sauce
    2 tbs tomato paste
    1med/large bell pepper diced
1 med/ lg white onion diced
2-3 large cloves of garlic minced
    1-1.5 lb ground beef
    olive oil

Using a heavy bottomed Dutch oven (it’s just a pot to me lol) Put 2 turns of the pan of olive oil on med to high heat. Salute garlic onions and bell pepper to soften the veggies. Add in the tomatoe paste and tomato sauce until paste is combined. Add in Ragu and turn to low heat to let the flavors start to get happy! If you like, add a little extra if your favorite dried Italian seasonings (this is just if you like a little more. You really don’t need to with the great seasoning Ragu has) If you rather use fresh, wait to add at the end if cooking)

In a skillet add a little olive oil and heat on med to high. Add ground beef and cook through. I add salt, pepper and garlic powder while it is cooking. Drain, and add to sauce.

Cook dried noodles to package directions *reserve about 1/4 to1/2 cup of the water after noodles are done before you drain it. I put the noodles back in the pot and pour some of the liquid back in and also add a little butter and as handful of Parmesan cheese. Mix. This gives the whole dish an amazing flavor and helps the noodles “hold on” to the sauce.

I chop a few fresh basil leaves and garnish the served plates with it.
This takes much less time than making from scratch sauce and tastes very close to it!
