If you give a mom a place to take her kids during spring break…chances are she’s going to want to give her readers a signed book to go with it.
If your home is anything like mine, there is at least one Laura Numeroff book on your child’s bookcase. If it is a lot like mine, there are several others on the floor, under the bed, and stacked on a chair. You’re invited to join Laura Numeroff this week as she reads from her new book The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza and signs complimentary copies for those in attendance. I’ll be attending the DC reading this Thursday, but watch for future dates in other cities including Baltimore.
Laura Numeroff has partnered with Sleepys and First Book, a non-profit organization working to provide new books to children in need, to promote family bedtime reading. Research shows that reading at least 20 minutes per night with your child can improve child literacy by 10 whole school days per year. In our home we find that 20 minutes of bedtime reading also helps our children wind down from their day and fall asleep much more quickly and peacefully. We dim the lights and pile into our daughter’s room to read each night – even the cat joins us! (If you give a cat a bedtime book….just kidding!)
Are you ready to make a pledge to read to your children 20 minutes every night and enter for a chance to win a signed copy of The Jellybeans and the Big Book Bonanza? Each pledge will support Sleepy’s corporate contribution to First Book to provide new books to families in need so more children have access to read. You can take the pledge by visiting your local Sleepys or at http://www.sleepysbedtimestories.com/ by entering for a chance to win lunch with Laura Numeroff in New York City.
Once you’ve taken the pledge, come back to this post and tell me “I’ve taken the pledge! My favorite place to read to my children/niece/nephew/grandchild is __fill_in_the_blank__” and you’ll be entered for a chance to win Laura’s new book.
This contest ends Saturday, April 3rd at 11:59 p.m. ET.
