Mamavation Monday: My Life Has Been Changed

It’s been five weeks since I decided to join Leah Segedie’s Mamavation movement, one month since I began making changes in my life, and twelve pounds have now disappeared from my body as if it didn’t take years for them to appear, as if removing them was simple, at my fingertips all along, a choice I just needed to make.

I’m realizing that it was simple, it was just a choice I needed to make. And now that I’ve made it, I want to keep going.

Last night I flew home from the Type-A Conference in Asheville, my favorite event of the blogging year.  This is my chance to unwind with some of the best friends I’ve ever had, and this year it felt even sweeter, my body and my mood lighter.  I danced until my body ached, I laughed until I cried, I stayed up talking until I shivered from exhaustion, all of it made better by how great I felt.

In fact, I’m fairly sure that had it not been for the changes in my life over the last month, I would not have even arrived to the conference until a day after my original arrival time.  My flight from Baltimore to Atlanta took off an hour and fifteen minutes late, and my hour and ten minute layover before my flight to Asheville slipped away.  We arrived in Atlanta at 8:25, thirty minutes before my next flight was supposed to take off.  Hope!  Then the pilot announced that we did not have a gate and would not until 8:45.  As soon as the door opened, I sprinted away from the gate, flip flops flapping, my tote bag clutched to me.  At 8:57 I ran up to the next gate, an entire terminal away, having rushed past the tram station, jogged up the escalator, maneuvered in between the people lazily deciding between Cinnabon or Auntie Anne’s.  Sweat dripped from every pore in my body, but I made it. The flight was still boarding and even though they couldn’t guarantee that my luggage would make the trip with me, they allowed me to get on the flight to Asheville.  And I desperately needed to get to Asheville.

Before Mamavation, I would not have been able to make that flight.

I can’t wait to see what I’m able to do next.

  • So proud of you!

I know exactly what you mean about feeling better – in my first month, I didn’t really lose any weight at all, but that’s because I built a lot of muscle. My clothes were baggy, I had a ton of energy and I just felt so much better.

You are absolutely rocking it, and I can’t wait to see the “new” you!

My kids have begun making a muscle periodically from seeing my new toned arms. There is something wonderful about toning and not just worrying about the numbers on the scale!

  • Fantastic! This is a great story and very motivating. Keep it up. 🙂

Leah, that started after Type-A as I realized that the foods and exercises that were working for me were becoming too routine. I’m changing it up this week, trying to find new foods that work, and I’m going to start the Couch to 5K. Thank you for being a continual inspiration.

  • Yea for you! What an inspirational post. Sometimes getting started is the hard part. I heard recently on the radio that a study showed that just visualizing what you want to accomplish will increase the chances that it will actually happen.

    • Amy

I’ve been standing in front of the mirror and visualizing a smaller body. lol I think it’s helping!

  • And you looked AWESOME! So good to dance, laugh, and hang with you!

    • Amy

You, too! I need to have you guys over soon! I’ve got Just Dance here 🙂
