In January when Disney’s Animal Kingdom added the Wild Africa Trek to the menu of amazing experiences at the Walt Disney World Resort, Cindy from The Mom Maven shared the details with us in her Wild Africa Trek guest post. Cindy’s report of what the adventure entails including pricing, contact information and more was so complete that there’s no point in revisiting that here, but now that I’ve had the chance to also experience the Wild Africa Trek, I want to share the highlights from my own experience along with recommendations to make the most out of your own adventure.
While waking up before dawn is probably the last thing you want to do on a Disney vacation, it is well worth it. The temperature was perfect, the views were incredible, and the morning hours allowed us to watch the animals at their most active. Check it out!
That animal-whose-name-I-cannot-recall was actually playing with a log, tossing it around in his horns while tiny African deer ran around him and giraffes went on their morning jog.
Also, if you have the opportunity, ask friends to join you. This would be part of the ultimate girl’s weekend away! My experience was made all the more special by the fact that I was able to share it with friends.
One of the most incredible aspects of this experience is the chance to get up close and personal with the animals. We had the opportunity to watch the hippos being fed by a Disney cast member and actually walked over the crocodiles! I especially enjoyed the times that the driver pulled the truck over from time to time so that our guides could tell us even more about each animal. They were there to answer questions and give us the best chances to snap incredible photographs.
Thank you to Walt Disney World for the opportunity to experience Wild Africa Trek at no additional cost as part of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration.
