Every year my husband and I give our children each one present on Christmas Eve. These presents are not from Santa, but instead are the gifts from us to our children, despite the fact that “Santa” would be bringing them items from their lists the next day. We always give them new Christmas themed books for these gifts and then read the books to them before beginning the rest of our Christmas Eve ritual: a candlelight church service, sprinkling reindeer food on the lawn, and placing chocolate milk and cookies on the hearth.
This year we will be giving them The Christmas Magic by Lauren Thompson with illustrations by Jon J. Muth as well as The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (review and giveaway to be posted 12/2).
The Christmas Magic follows Santa as he prepares for Christmas Eve and his magical flight around the world. The beautiful illustrations show a fun and loving Santa, more than just a man in a red suit with a long, white beard. I chose to review this book because I know that it will make my children smile on Christmas Eve, just like the excited reindeer on the book’s cover.
Giveaway: Two readers will win a copy of this beautiful book! To enter, just leave a comment telling me what makes the holidays magical for you. This contest ends Monday, December 7th.
