Simple and Surprising Twitter Party

This party’s hashtag has been updated!

Summer vacation may be coming to an end, but the summer heat is here to stay!  Many locations are just as hot in August and September as they are in June and July, so it remains important for parents to keep their children safe during this summer heat.  Please check out my tips for how to keep the kids safe during hot summer and early fall activities including water safety, hydration and more. Visit www.simpleandsurprising.com to not only learn more, but also enter to win a giveaway sponsored by Clorox.

To enter to win a great prize pack, return to this post on Resourceful Mommy and leave a comment with your favorite summer safety tip and something new you learned from my post on Simple and Surprising. Be sure to also check back in the future as other guest bloggers share their tips and featured giveaways.  There will also be upcoming Clorox sponsored Twitter events, so be sure to keep an eye on www.simpleandsurprising.com!  This giveaway ends 9/8 at midnight EST.

In the meantime, please join us Monday, August 23rd from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. ET for a Twitter party of our own!  We’ll be chatting more about safety during summer heat and giving away several valuable gift cards.

Where: #smplandsurprising on Twitter

My fave tip was the cues on bbqs “Still, BBQs also tend to involve plenty of items that are decidedly not kid-friendly: raw meat, pointy instruments, and open flames. Make sure you have an eye on your kids at all times”

My favorite summer safety tip is to stay hydrated. I learned to clean and disinfect the kiddy pool with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label.

Filtered Water made into Ice Cubes then added to the boys Stainless Steele BPA free water bottles, keeps things colder longer. I throw in the ice cubes, add more filtered water (sometimes I use the PUR – flavored filtered water) and away they go. It encourages them to remain hydrated throughout the hot summer days.
I also make gatorade ice cubes for their water bottles when they head to the gym. No watered down sports drink for them this way. If they don’t like it they won’t drink it. Teenagers are funny that way ;)

Something New — I had no idea there was a Dr. Laundry blog, let alone a Dr. Laundry Stain line… why didn’t I know about this before? It’s not just the summer months that get the boys (and their clothes) filthy, but back to school, which means back to sports (football, soccer anyone?) — means stains and all sorts of food stuffs (ummm napkins boys – napkins!)….

I learned that you need to dump out plastic pools each time you use it. Dump out the water after each session, and keep it clean by disinfecting it with a solution of ¾ cup bleach to one gallon of water or as directed on product label. (Also, I know it can also be a breeding ground for mosquitoes if you don’t dump it out…ewww.)

My tip is to keep your yard trim and free from insects (mosquitoes) with spray and reg. mowing.

From the Simple and Surpr. website:
Keep the playground playable. Playgrounds are built for kids, but they’re not always kid-ready.
