Be Still…

I am going through a horrible time with one of my closest friends right now.  Long developing hurt feelings have bubbled to the surface, and I am helpless, losing sleep, unable to concentrate, waiting for a resolution.  In my perfect world every conflict would immediately bring the two parties to a table with a bottle of wine and it would be talked, yelled, hugged out.  She does not operate that way, and so I wait.  In my mind I’m writing emails.  I’m making phone calls.  I’m explaining, arguing, pushing to fix what is broken.  But I’ve learned in the past that sending these shots in the dark never end well.  Knowing this, however, does nothing to ease my mounting frustration and pain.

I turned on my car this morning to take my kids to camp, words to my friend spinning in my mind, when I heard the song, “Be Still and Know That He Is God” by Steven Curtis Chapman.  The song was at the point where Steven sings,

“Be still and know that He is God…..be still and know that He is God…..be still…..be speechless.”

My eyes welled up with tears.  My mind cleared.

God always finds me where I am, gives me what I need in that moment.

I will be still….and know that He is God.

  • I feel your pain and I’m glad God was there to comfort you.

I went through a painful time with a “best” friend around 2 years ago. She was sharing decisions she was making; I was trying to hold her accountable. It ruined our friendship, but I stand by the accountability I was trying to give. I never left, she chose to move on.

She occasionally texts me now. I sometimes respond. I’m open to God acting when it’s time.

I pray you will have peace. Thanks for sharing this tender post.

  • I tried to leave a comment, but I’m not sure it went through.

Anyway, the gist was, I get it. I went through the same thing a couple of years ago.

May God bring you the peace you need. Hugs!

  • My dear, keep your focus on Him today. As the old song says, Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus… and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace!

Stephen’s songs have touched me so many times! Have you read his book, Speechless? I have it on my favorites shelf and read it at least once a year. It’s fabulous!

  • If there is one thing I’ve learned it’s that you can’t make anyone do anything they don’t want to do…and unfortunately that includes working out an argument.

All I can do is take ownership for my part, even apologize for my part in it, and a lot of times that alone makes me feel better….whether or not the other person accepts my apology or sees my side.

    Hang in there.

  • Good luck, I hope everything works out with you and your friend. That is very hard to deal with.

It is so weird how his words speak to me during different times in my life!

  • I’ve been on the verge of taking you off my reader (nothing personal just now much for me here anymore) and then this post. I’m weeping it touched me so.

    Thank you.

  • Oh, Amy, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I will keep you in my prayers and ask God to help keep your friend’s heart open. Sounds like she may need some time to herself to think things through and will come around soon..I hope that is the case.

  • So sorry to hear you are hurting over this Amy…I think you’re doing the right thing by just waiting and giving the friend space/time..I’ll keep y’all in my prayers:)

  • Sorry to hear about your struggles with your friend. Sometimes that hurts so much. I’ve never heard this song before but it brought me to tears. Thank you, thank you! My thoughts are with you dear.

  • Lori A.

Sending you wishes of peace and positive thoughts. You are doing the right thing and the friendship will maintain if it is meant to be. I recently experienced this, and after a month or two, things are better. Hugs.

  • I’m sorry you are going through this. I am going through something similar with a family member and I am losing sleep as well. I am glad God has come to you.

  • I am so sorry Amy! That totally stinks, but I am sure you will manage to work things out. You are so good with people and alway so helpful and full of positive energy. It shows that you even know how to deal with this situation by backing off for a little bit.

  • went thru the same thing a few years back- we both had to step back and let go and let God, and we both contacted each other within 10 minutes of each other via email (without realizing the other had emailed us!). Now we’re back where we were before, just older and wiser!

So yes, sometimes letting go IS the answer!

  • I love Steven Curtis Chapman! I feel like God has been using his music to speak to me and my heart lately too.

I’m sorry you are going through this with a friend. It’s never easy to have conflicts. I’ve been there and I know the struggle and the pain. I hope this resolves for you soon, I hope you two can patch up your friendship and make it whole again. *hug*

  • I’m sorry you are going through this. I’m having a similar issue with my used to be BF too. My problem is I don’t know what happened we are just at a standstill.

I really hope things can be worked out for you.
