To start the July giveaways off with a bang, one lucky reader will receive the new Leapster Explorer from LeapFrog. This product was sent to us several weeks ago to try before becoming available in stores. When we took the Leapster from the packaging, I expected to have to read the instructions and help my four year old learn how to use the device. Instead, it was so intuitive that my little guy took it from me, turned it on, and began playing with no help whatsoever! My children are certainly more technologically savvy than I was at their ages, but this impressed me.
My four year old son and six year old daughter have been enjoying the impressive graphics and the variety of uses. They were both happy to find their friends Ozzie and Mack from their LeapFrog Tag library in the form of an e-Book. They also like the whimsical pet creator, which reminds me of past electronic pet crazes. My four year old has figured out that the best way to harass his sister is to log in as her and change her pet from a cat to a bunny. Great product or not – brothers are brothers.
In typical LeapFrog style there is learning wrapped into the fun at every turn. This is why I have come to love and trust LeapFrog products in the hands of my children. I have been especially impressed with the Toy Story 3 cartridge game. Both of my children are on the brink of becoming fluent readers, and the Toy Story 3 game takes a close look at spelling, letter sounds, counting syllables and more. The kids engage with the game, speaking aloud along with the game when prompted.
Because the Leapster Explorer is geared to a wide age range (ages 4 to 9), there are moments in some games where one or both children have hit points of frustration, but this is much better to me than having them spend time with a learning tool that is too easy. In fact, I’ve already begun to see their progress and look forward to trying new games for the Leapster Explorer in the future.
I look forward to watching their progress as the Leapster reacts and adapts to their progress. We’re hooked and we absolutely would recommend this product to friends and family.
