ASHA #BHSMChat Twitter Party

Did-you-know_Autism-1_1200x630

May is Better Hearing & Speech Month and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is sharing information on several different topics to help draw attention to a variety of speech, language, and hearing issues in both adults and children. One of the important topics that they are covering is how communication is a factor for those with Autism.

This month, ASHA would like to bring attention to some of the early signs of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including the social communication difficulties experienced by children with ASD. ASHA is also talking about how we can all better communicate with people with autism.

ASHA wants to help parents recognize the communication milestones of early childhood and understand how to obtain early intervention if a delay is detected. Speech-language pathologists are often the first professionals to identify a child with ASD. Children can begin to receive communication services by a speech-language pathologist as soon as delays in meeting expected milestones are detected. A diagnosis of ASD is not necessary to start these services.

Please join us for a very important Twitter party, where we’ll be tweeting with ASHA experts for their advice and valuable information about speech/language milestones and what we all need to know about communicating with those who have Autism. Also we’ll be joined by Emily Vanek of ColoradoMoms.com, who will be sharing her experiences and expertise with us as a parent of a child with an autism diagnosis. We hope to see you at the…
