Festive Fridays: Spring Break Staycation Ideas

Festive Friday staycation

While the weather is still confused about what time of year it really is, we’re moving quickly into spring break season! If you’re like me and just itching to plan a great break for your family but not able to take the time off for or spend money on travel, creating a staycation is a perfect solution. Playing tourist in your hometown is a great way to spend your spring break while saving a ton of money over a full-fledged vacation. Here are some tips and ideas to help you plan a great time with your family!

staycationCollageDisconnect for downtime – The first rule of staycation is to RELAX, just like you’re on a real vacation. Unplug from your email and switch off from social networks – except for when you’re sharing the fun!

Photo scavenger hunt – One of the best ways to make memories is through photos. Make a list of great shots that you’d like to take with your family and go in search of the perfect picture. Or if you’re competitive, create a scavenger hunt of landmarks around your area and head out in teams to see who can get all the shots first!

Go Geocaching – Geocaching is a great way to explore the outdoors. Check out Geocaching.com to find out how it all works and where to search in your area.

Day trips, day trips, day trips – Hit up all the fun spots and tourist attractions close to town or within a couple hours’ drive that your budget will allow. Think like a person who is visiting your area and have some touristy fun!

Take in a show – Be on the lookout for fun evening events. Local plays and musicals are always a treat or see if there are any concerts happening in the area. Even a family movie night is a great source of entertainment during staycations.

Hotel overnight – If you really want to make yourself feel like you’re on vacation, book a night at a local hotel. Enjoy the pool or just camp out in the room and have a night’s escape from reality.

Enjoy a spa day – Whether you make an appointment for some relaxing pampering or just soak in the tub and give yourself a mani-pedi in the living room, take some time to make yourself feel good.

Try something new around town – Have dinner at a new restaurant, patronize a new museum, or shop a new local business. Finding new local treasures is a lot of fun during a staycation!

Find a family hobby – Use your staycation time to try lots of new activities and find something that you can enjoy as a family on a regular basis!

Just appreciate family time – No matter what you decide to do, the important thing is to enjoy each other’s company and create memories that will last a lifetime!
