Festive Fridays: Fall Outdoor Fun

The calendar says it’s fall, but around here days are still quite warm. This is really my favorite time of year to enjoy the outdoors, as it’s still short-sleeves weather but not as humid and stifling as those balmy summer days. I love to find reasons to be outside and am always on the lookout for fun outdoor activities to enjoy with my family. If you’re looking for ways to enjoy the lovely weather of early fall, here are a few suggestions to get you started!

Get out on the water – Spend some time canoeing or kayaking around local lakes and rivers, taking in the fall colors before the water is too cold to enjoy.

Go on a photo walk – Grab your camera or your phone and stroll around the forest or take a walk around your favorite cities or towns. Create a photo checklist or some kind of challenge to get the whole family involved in the fun!

Visit a pick-your-own farm – Tis the season for apple and pumpkin picking! Spend an afternoon choosing the best pumpkins in the patch or grab a big bushel of apples for baking up some tasty treats.

Check out local fall festivals – Festivals abound during the fall season, with many towns, organizations, schools, and churches hosting events. It’s a perfect opportunity to spend some time strolling around enjoying entertainment, games, craft vendors, and more.

Look for a haunted tour or trail – With Halloween just around the corner,  you can get into the spooky mood of the season with a ghost tour or haunted trail. Historical areas often offer these tours or local organizations will host a haunted house or trail as a fundraiser.

Find a corn maze and get lost – If you’re in an area with nearby farms, corn mazes usually abound. Split the family into teams and see who can get through the maze the fastest!

  • We love a spot of Geocaching in our house, like treasure hunting but with a bit of technology, it’s great for the kids, and us adults have fun as well.
