Fresh produce is one of the best parts of summer, in my opinion. Fruits and vegetables are a staple of meals year round, but even more so in the summer when produce is abundant.

There is one issue I have with buying large amounts of produce on my weekly shopping trips – food waste. There is nothing I hate more than shopping on the weekend, then by the middle of the week, some of the product I have purchased is no longer edible and must be thrown away. I can’t stand the idea of wasting money OR food!

Rubbermaid has developed a new line of storage containers that can help combat the problem of wasted produce. FreshWorks™ Produce Saver containers keep food looking and tasting better, extending the life of your fruits and vegetables.

FreshWorks features revolutionary FreshVent™ technology to regulate the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide, while the CrispTray™ helps reduce moisture and spoilage to keep produce fresher for up to 80% longer.  Containers come in three sizes (2.5 cups, 6.3 cups, and 17.3 cups) allowing you to store a variety of produce from small berries to leafy greens. Just transfer your produce from the store packaging to the containers and pop them in the fridge. No washing or prep necessary to keep produce fresher, longer.

I tried out the new Rubbermaid FreshWorks™ containers on a package of strawberries I picked up at the grocery store a couple of weeks ago. After a week, I checked on the containers and the FreshWorks berries still looked great, while I had to throw away a couple of those in the original packaging as they were starting to mold. You can see in the images below that after two weeks, the strawberries in the original packaging are moldy and turning and the leafy tops have dried out, the ones in the FreshWorks™ container have only just started to darken a bit.

FreshWorks ™ helps defeat both produce food waste, along with wasted money. $24 billion in produce is thrown away by Americans each year. Using FreshWorks™ containers can save an average of $192 per household.

I’m challenging YOU to change your existing grocery routine and join me for the ‘Long Live Produce Challenge’ to see just how much longer you can make your produce last!

My cherries always go bad before I can eat them! It would be great if these could help!

I have a horrible time with strawberries. I will buy strawberries and literally the next day they have mold on them.

Strawberries and cilantro always go bad before we can use them all. I’d like to try these containers, as it would save money on produce. I really hate throwing away food.
