Festive Fridays: Leap Day Fun & Frog Cupcakes

Festive Friday Leap Day

It’s Leap Year and we’re just days away from Leap Day! While some might not consider it a true holiday, there’s something special about a date that only comes once every four years!

Why not put together a time capsule of favorite things to be opened on the next Leap Day or set some family goals that you’d like to achieve before the next Leap Year rolls around.  Make the day a little more special with frog-themed activities, foods, and fun. You can get outdoors for a little leap frog, make frog inspired crafts, or make up some froggy treats.

Whether you are celebrating a Leap Day birthday or just enjoying the fun of having an extra day in February, these Frog Cupcakes are a fun spin on the theme of the day. While I initially made them for my son’s Muppets Most Wanted themed party, they’re a perfect snack or dessert to add to your Leap Day activities.

White gumballs make perfect frog eyes, especially when you draw on them with food grade marker. Check local candy shops, craft stores, or shop online to order them in bulk in a single color.

With my eyes, I used Kermit the Frog as my inspiration, but you can be creative with the shape when drawing them on the gumballs. Have fun with it!

Simply bake up your favorite cupcakes and pile them high with some yummy green frosting and top with your adorable gumball eyes. I used homemade buttercream, which held the frog eyes really well.  You can add other embellishments, like a fruit leather tongue to make them your own. Enjoy!
