Spring Forward, Change Your Batteries

I am a list person, a writer-on-my-hand girl, a former college student who had to duct tape assignments to her desk to not lose them.  Seriously.

This is why the person who first tied smoke alarm battery changes to changes in daylight savings time is among my heroes.  Like lefty-loosey, righty-tighty, ROYGBIV and KPCOFGSV (the colors of the rainbow and classifications of animals for those of you who didn’t pay attention in science class), and fall back/spring forward, knowing that a change in the clock means a change of the batteries keeps my over-tasked brain on track and my family safe.

This Saturday night it is once again time to spring forward.  As much as I will mourn that lost hour of sleep, I am desperately looking forward to mornings with sunshine peeking through the blinds an hour later and a six year old who will stop waking up before 7 a.m.  I also know that Saturday my husband will go through the house changing our smoke alarm batteries.

I know, I know. You’ve already lost an hour and some of those smoke alarms are in incredibly awkward locations.  But this is important!  Make your lists, write on the top of your hand, duct tape a note to the door – whatever works.  Then grab your 9-volt batteries, scale those ladders, and be safe for another 6 months.

Happy spring forward, everyone!
